Jaysus this escalated. First I tweeted something dumb about a company I didn’t follow (because I mostly don’t follow individual companies — that theme will repeat soon). Thought it was just another Allbirds, wanted to make a stupid scatological joke, and wanted to post my favorite paper from the dot com bubble. My bad. Then @PalmerLuckey told me it was a “dumb” tweet. He was right, but I didn’t appreciate the phraseology, and yes, didn’t recognize him which I absolutely should have. My bad again. I have (as anyone who follows me knows) a very low tolerance for anonymous trolls and way jumped the gun based on past bad experiences. Having said that, unlike regarding @PalmerLuckey, I also yelled at a bunch of actual anonymous trolls, and this I do not take back. Though I’d like some points for providing you all with entertainment AND for not deleting the original tweets. I just think that’s a weak move. You take your lumps and you move on. I’m not above deleting a tweet occasionally, but I try not to especially when I’m wrong. So, happy to have helped the twitter-verse enjoy Friday. Have a nice weekend. And, finally, I’m seriously considering starting a bank based on the characters of Robert E. Howard.

🇰🇷 Interactive Brokers just opened direct access to Korean stocks for the first time. No more proxy ETFs. So what's actually worth buying? Here are observations from my screening of Korea's top 25 by market cap: 1. The median Forward P/E is 20x - NOT cheap vs the global market (16x). The "Korea discount" exists only in specific pockets. 2. Those pockets are absurdly cheap: SK Hynix P/E 4x, Samsung P/E 6x, Kia P/E 7x. Three companies. The rest of the market is fairly valued or expensive. 3. Median 1-year return: +90%. These stocks already moved. You're not early on the broad market. 4. Where you ARE early: shipbuilding. HD Hyundai Heavy has the best combination of growth, efficiency, and risk resilience among Korea's top 25. Post-war reconstruction demand + LNG fleet renewal are structural tailwinds. 5. Best dividend yield: Kia 4.3%, KB Financial 3.4%, Shinhan 2.8%. Korean banks now yield more than most US REITs. 6. Biggest quality trap: Samsung SDI (P/E 422x, FCF -4.1%). Battery maker is burning cash while EV demand growth slows. 7. Quality gem: HD Hyundai Electric. Revenue +19%/yr, P/E 46x, +5,906% in 5 years. Transformer and power equipment maker benefiting from global grid modernization for AI data centers. Korea is not a blanket "cheap market" play. It's a stock picker's paradise - but you need to know where to look.

ROUNDHILL'S $DRAM HIT $1.7B IN LESS THAN 20 TRADING DAYS - Everyone said thematic ETFs were dead. Roundhill found a gap nobody else did - Fewer than 12 holdings, can't replicate it in the S&P 500 or as a DIY investor - They're charging 65 basis points on $1.7B for what Bloomberg called a "vanilla ETF"

@orrdavid Are you considering sifting through Korean stocks gor $ORR now that IBKR has opened up individual stock options? Not sure if you can short KRX yet though...

I learned from Covid that trying to time the market on macro events is impossible over months. Short term trades can have an edge. And sometimes I know what to do and catch them. Most often I do not know what to do, though, so I change nothing. It's served me well to ignore macro almost always, unless something seems very one sided for a short term trade. I don't lose sight of this very basic idea: own investments that go up long term. It's so damn easy to forget that, and I never lose sight of this key pillar of investing.

@SowingAlphaSeed Got it to work! Turns out, for me, limit orders don't work...only market. But it seems the spreads are all 50won, and prices are rounded to the nearest 50won also...or about 4 cents, so market isn't horrible. Decent fills so far. The 4000won ($3) commission is a bit high

@ErcInvestsonks This was via the Trader Workstation desktop app. But regardless, I'd start by going to settings and requesting permissions for Korean stocks.

Looks like IBKR added direct access to trading Korean equities.

@SowingAlphaSeed Thank you! Very excited. I travel to Korea every summer and was going to look into opening a brokerage account there to trade...but Korea always has headaches for paperwork and phone verification. So Im so happy IBKR is opening this up!!!
