@ArksDigital @SPT1603 @Heccles94 Its not Christianity as a platform for politics but Christ informed politics The old testament is not invalidated or contradicted. Matthew 5:17 John 5:46

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 They are very relevant for when people try to use Christianity as a platform for politics. Several things are in fact different, but either way if you are truly Christian then the Christs interpretations should still hold precedent.

@ConkiForever The law is extremely inconsistent and tries to make up for past injustices by being inconsistent today

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 They do apply unless you mean to imply you don't follow the teaching of Christ. There is a reason we separate the old and new testament. The teachings of Christ should take precedent.

@defeatrun @SPT1603 @Heccles94 Well now christian nationalism is becoming embedded in British life and identity regardless of whether you see it as organic or imported

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 Globalisation has become embedded in British life & our identity. If most people in modern Britain are more secular, then secularism is part of contemporary British culture regardless of whether you see it as organic or imported

@defeatrun @SPT1603 @Heccles94 Again you would have a point if this was some evolution of culture, but it is not. Its again, a separate globalized culture which has been introduced.

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 That’s not how culture works, it doesn’t remain embalmed and unchanging forever. Culture is defined by how ppl live and identify in the present. I’m not disputing Britain’s Christian roots, only that Christianity isn’t as central to our identity as it is for Americans

@defeatrun @SPT1603 @Heccles94 I disagree. The culture is what it is. Its not that people are following a different idea of it, its that they are following a totally separate, globalized culture instead. The roots and soul of Britain are not secular.

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 Then ask yourself what culture is. If people engage less with the religious aspects of their society, then religion becomes less important to that society’s identity. In other words, Christianity is less integral to current British identity than American identity

@Joanciara2 @quoltanRIP But it's implying that god made them suffer, especially if it was a condition they had from birth

@defeatrun @SPT1603 @Heccles94 Sure its not as feverish, but that's a symptom of people not engaging with their own culture, not religion not being a part of the culture.

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 We agree on nothing it seems. UK religiosity is nowhere near as feverish as the US. Faith in the uk has traditionally been a private matter. Over 50% of the uk identifies as secular & naturally church attendance here is drastically lower than it is in the states too

@ArksDigital @SPT1603 @Heccles94 None of these are relevant to this though? The bible clearly sees foreigners populating one's native land as a bad thing (Isaiah 1:7) so taking action to prevent that and also draw closer to the christian roots of the country obviously isn't bad.

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 I would urge you to read through the new testament again, cause I think you will find that your lord, Christ, wasn't that fond of this sort action. Not to be a bible basher but read for instance Matthew 22:21, Matthew 26:52 and John 6:15.

@emo_rock_ I could go on for hours but I highly recommend studying this period of history, the world was really alive around the time of Jesus's birth

@emo_rock_ In fact, in egyptian courts they only spoke Greek. Cleopatra was also really brilliant, she spoke Greek, Latin, Hebrew, parthian, and was the first of her lineage to speak true ancient something most of her line didn't bother doing. She was extremely intelligent.

Cleopatra deliberately appeared to Marc Antony dressed up as Aphrodite in their first meeting, dressed up as a goddess with her servants dressed up as servants to Aphrodite. Greek/roman and egyption cultures often intermingled, especially in the late republic.
Tipo@emo_rock_

@gunshied Why is she talking about Aphrodite in an "egyptian" themed music video

@StopGooningRN @SPT1603 @Heccles94 I don't agree. There's very likely something both manipulative and bad about it. When religion is being used as a rallying cry for political change it is often also being exploited as a platform for conservatism rather than faith. (ie. not for the sake of Christ.)
