Man, these ink drawings with red splashes from a 1959 Toronto Planning Board report (‘The Pedestrian in Downtown Toronto’). There were some artists on staff back in the day.

@BravoDavenport Do as they do on condo construction sites: drop containers creating a protected walkway under the overpass.

What should be a 2 minute walk to Campbell Park for people living on the east side of the tracks currently takes 20. And that’s just one example — the Antler-Lappin connection will provide better access to schools, services, and community facilities for everyone in the area.

@JackKlompas @RM_Transit Someone approves the proposals. Ford's people are the same crew that parted ways with Deutsche Bahn amid concerns of the "goalposts being moved" during the ongoing overhaul of GO operations.

@StoreFrontExp @RM_Transit Ford didn't do the engineering. Ford didn't do the construction. A bunch of highly paid experienced engineers did that, and it was a gong show. You can blame Ford, I'll blame the engineers.

@RM_Transit @JackKlompas Perhaps Jack is thinking more about the role of Ford as both enabler and apologist for what amounted to truly epic blunder (as measured by standard expectations of on time and on budget) amplified by poor communication.

@CFIB @PierrePoilievre PP also had lots to say about the deficit, so he has to make some tough choices. Perhaps create a set amount (not a percentage) per litre. Stable revenue for gov't and reduced cost for consumers.

Fuel costs are right at the top of small business concerns. This hits many firms twice as they have to deal with higher business costs and their consumers have fewer dollars to spend at the same time. @PierrePoilievre’s proposal to pause federal fuel taxes until year end makes great sense and should be adopted by provincial governments too.
Pierre Poilievre@PierrePoilievre

Mr. Carney, every day, your Liberal government is getting rich off the backs of Canadians paying higher prices for gas & diesel. End gas taxes now and save Canadians 25 ¢/L: conservative.ca/cpc/zero-tax-o…

@gregbradyx Surprised the Jays did not intervene to keep trains running. Did they not whine about the Lakeshore closure for active transit weekends near the end of Covid? 🤔

This anti-technology buffoonery is no different than the common Car Brain posts: "If bike lanes are so good then explain how we're supposed to travel 500 miles with 3 kids and luggage for a family vacation?"

@jen_keesmaat Weigh and Pay works for paid parking on street. VW Golf and F250 use different amounts of curb space and the pickup should pay more.

Congestion pricing, when effective, also prices based on the size of the vehicle. Today, road hogs just get to, well, hog the road. We need some consequences to inform choices when it comes to our precious urban road space.
Andy Boenau@Boenau

Driving through a city SHOULD be inconvenient if you're driving at the same time as everyone else. Space is limited, and motor vehicles take up a ton of space. Over time they keep getting bigger. Autobesity is a burden on everyone.

@Lam_mour @A_Kam @humantransit Counties in Asia have a range of schemes and yes, it seems some are not subsidized, whereas China provides significant subsidy for what is viewed as a public service.

@StoreFrontExp @A_Kam @humantransit Quite obviously not true, and it's sad that you have to lie to yourself to justify a sad joke of a transit system. In Asia transit is profitable and convenient, and nobody needs to lie to justify it

Excellent piece on why Canada is better than the US at public transit. One thing it misses: There is just a lot more transit in Canada, measured in revenue hours / capita. More buses more frequently. Transit is more useful, so people use it.
Jerome Alexander Horne@jahorne

"Canada is far from a perfect model. But the disparity between Canadian and American transit is not an accident of geography or engineering: it is the predictable result of differences in political priorities." mironline.ca/how-canada-is-…

Car Brain is what leads people to commit and/or justify antisocial behavior involving a car. e.g. Pulling into an intersection before there's space to get all the way across. So when the light's red, you're stuck blocking crosswalks, putting vulnerable people in danger.

@A_Kam @Lam_mour @humantransit Also no way that car trips cost less to society than bus trips. This is an average, but the numbers work: For every $1 paid by a transit user, society subsidizes $1.50, but for driving, society subsidizes $9.20.

To build an economy that can stand up to President Trump’s tariffs, Ontario must take every chance we can to attract investment and support our workers. Expanding and modernizing Billy Bishop Airport will create tens of thousands of jobs, support local businesses and strengthen our connections to the rest of the world.

Few cities have built greenways as quickly or as comprehensively as Shenzhen. Launched as part of the broader Pearl River Delta ecological initiative in 2010, their network now stretches more than 2,300 km, organised into a hierarchy of regional, urban and neighbourhood routes.🧵

@SafeStreetsTO @BikewaysTO @AlbertKoehl @FixCoffeeBikes Agree about regulation. Please support efforts to explore Enforcement even as Regulations are created. No sense having one without the other. My take - TPS will demand more funding. Until and unless Enforcement becomes de-tasked from TPS, it won't happen.

At “The Future of E-Bikes” ft. @BikewaysTO - @AlbertKoehl explained many complex issues 🔋🚲! My take: ‘bikes’ with ‘throttle’ need much stricter regulation + higher speed/weight ‘motorcycle/moped’ devices should require a licence 🏍️🛵 Thx @FixCoffeeBikes for hosting!
