Bikes don't have airbags - we need safer roads! @TorontoPolice data shows since 2014, 26 cyclists have been killed & 376 were seriously injured in #BikeTO. This map shows: 1. Injuries sustained 2. Crash circumstances 3. Crash heat map 4. Where people died arcg.is/0CTKXL0

@PlannerSean @HaydenPoon Maybe worse than true length is that the See photo on the second page is literally a sprawling suburb with a giant empty parking lot. What's the message? Just drive to transit and park for free - that's really transit supportive!

@ronmortgageguy Units with a glass wall internal bedroom are just a bachelor unit, not really a 1 bedroom. That’s not a city planning failure, is a marketing trickery by developers.

🚨🏥🧑‍⚕️Your Choice: A. Park a car for 25$/day plus gas $ OR B. Ride a bike for free? Obviously many smart doctors, nurses and patients (who can) bike to Hospital Row along University Ave. Biking is affordable, fast, more reliable & HEALTHIER! #bikeTO

Toronto ER doctor @Raghu_Venugopal tells @MooreintheAM that the major hospitals disagree with activist group ABC Toronto on whether bike lanes on University Avenue impede emergency vehicles from reaching hospitals. ihr.fm/4urfUWd

Nothing says “low aspirations” more than this tiny, temporary pedestrian project. Pedestrianized streets and public realm investments have become defining features elsewhere. Rapidly over the past five years: Paris has removed more than 70,000 on-street parking spaces and created lush pedestrian streets with community gardens, everywhere. Barcelona is aggressively scaling its superblocks with pedestrian spaces and no-drive zones. Where cars once idled, children now play. London has accelerated low-traffic neighbourhoods and is even pedestrianizing Oxford St. Montreal is now defined by pedestrian streets, that have become a tourism magnet. Every one of these cities has thrived as it has tamed cars and focused on a pedestrian realm for urban life. Toronto remains provincial. We must do better.

@abctoronto_ How about giving health care workers a safe place to ride bikes to their workplace? Or giving patients who can bike an affordable option that doesn’t require expensive parking? Bike lanes do that.

@abctoronto_ Most of the hospitals don’t use University Ave as their emergency route. They generally use the side streets - and always have - because they work better for local access to ERs.

Toronto provides a lot of data on bicycle counts at different intersections, but no visualization. I set out to change that. I present a comparator tool for tracking all the bicycle counters around Toronto. I have also included (unofficial) Bike Share Toronto trip data.

#NEW: Toronto drivers are fed up. A new @LiaisonCanada poll confirms what commuters already know: • 88% say traffic is a serious problem • 72% say City Hall is failing to coordinate construction and closures Gridlock is no longer an inconvenience. It’s a quality-of-life crisis. Toronto deserves better. Keep Toronto moving. Do you think traffic in Toronto is getting worse? Weigh in below. Like, share, and follow @abctoronto_ #TOpoli

I'm not sure Toronto needs Brad Bradford, but it definitely needs: - More green space - More community centres - More libraries - Better garbage cans - More bike lanes (maybe not on major thoroughfares) - More recreational facilities (courts, rinks) - More trees - Better transit

Hey #bikeTO hive mind: I’m gathering  examples of post install cycling / road safety project impact reporting, and was wondering if anyone knows of any particularly interesting examples of reports from other municipalities? Any leads would be appreciated! @fietsprofessor thanks!

Spring is coming and outdoor dining and drinking is returning! CafeTO is setting up on St Clair West at Yonge. But I wish the makeshift concrete blocks could be upgraded to the permanent closure of the curb lane with wider sidewalks and a café society.

I'm moving on from @Shopify. When I joined 7.5 years ago, friends were literally taking bets on whether I'd last a year. The idea of me thriving inside a large company (and Shopify was a lot smaller back then!) felt unlikely. Most people assumed I'd be itching to start my next thing. Instead, Shopify became my company. I wasn't a founder, but @tobi always made me feel like one. It wasn't a startup, but Shopify moves like one. And the mission isn't just words — it shows up in the decisions, every day. I got to wear a lot of hats. Introducing Shop to the world. Going deep on the rails of how money moves on the internet. Reimagining Shopify for the age of AI through design. Leaving is hard. Shopify changed my life in more ways than I can recount. It taught me how to build for the long term, gave me a bar for craft and ambition I'll carry into everything that comes next, and showed me what it looks like when a company lives its mission. In my next chapter, I'm getting the opportunity to bring together all the things I've obsessed over the past decade — consumer mobile, finance and money movement, design, AI — into a single role. More on that soon.

Underrated key feature of the new @BikeShareTO e-bikes in #BikeTO: 🔔 DUAL BELLS 🔔 That are easy to use without taking hand off the bars. Let's all ride safe and keep other riders alert when passing - especially in narrow cycle tracks. #BikeShareTO

Interesting. Initial classification of AI Agent was "a hydro pole covered with asphalt". But I doubted that and changed it manually to make sure or to match the image. SolveTO AI agent seems knew better based on data in that area. Never doubt data. Unfortunately, who ever covered this area, didn't do a good job. What is baffling me, is why we reach this level of carelessness about where we live?
