Pre LTN estimated hourly traffic flows on weekdays from 4PM to 7PM. Note the purple sections within the LTN and on boundary roads. I have counted sometimes 300+ motor vehicles going through what was the Valley Road roundabout (at the jnct with Gleneldon Rd) in a 15-minute period.

@streathamstuff Can we have clear statements from the political groups standing for election in Lambeth in May on their *borough-wide* position on LTNs and CPZs? It's no good having ward candidates saying they are against LTNs/CPZs when, across the borough, the policy is to support the same.

@gdennigan @SocEnvJustice No, not everyone is at the same mobility level once in their car. Did you not read the piece? June has chronic fatigue syndrome. I imagine having to drive extra distances and for extra time would impact her in a way it wouldn't most other people.

@StrWellsLTNEye @SocEnvJustice Once in the car, everyone is at the same mobility level, aren’t they? Blue badge holder has favourable parking terms at their destination, just as it’s meant to be. Simple, eh??

@streathamstuff ... Perhaps it would help if there was better public transport? The #315 bus runs between Leigham Court Road and the Valley Road roundabout (so not as far as the common) every 20 minutes at best.

@streathamstuff My pinned post may be of interest: x.com/StrWellsLTNEye…. I did vehicle counts at the Valley Road roundabout in late 2022/early 2023 (pre LTN). Throughput in a 15-minute period during the evening rush hour was typically 300 vehicles - a rate of 1,200 an hour...

Stats from bustimes.org and originally from TfL, for example: #journeys/857878423" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">bustimes.org/services/255-p…. I think there's an issue here. Congestion is often bad on Sternhold and Thornton Avs, particularly on Fridays. Would be interested in the thoughts of @streathamaction and @tfl.

Today #255 bus services scheduled to run from Balham to Mitcham starting at 16:23, 16:36, 16:50, 17:04 and 17:40 apparently: - didn't run; - took 17 minutes to travel the two stops from Thornton Av to Streatham Hill Station; - didn't run; - took 16 minutes; and - took 17 minutes.

@JohnJohnStewart @CyclingLawLDN Am I right in thinking that the numbers produced are for a scenario in which all cycling, walking and wheeling is replaced by car driving? Is that how the 'savings' and 'removals' have been derived?

@cyclingindustry In what sense 'saved' and in what sense 'removed'? Do you mean that if cycling, walking and wheeling were replaced in their entireties by car travel then it would cost to the NHS £2 billion more and 2.9 million more cars would be on the road?

Walking, wheeling and cycling saved the NHS almost £2 billion and removed up to 2.9 million cars from the road every day last year, according to a study conducted by the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust. cyclingindustry.news/study-walking-…

@streathamaction @TfL @FMConwayltd Was the congestion on Thornton and Sternhold Avenues towards Streatham High Road discussed? (It's not unusual for buses to take 15+ minutes - and sometimes 30+ minutes - to travel two stops during the evening rush hour.)

@benjyminty @streathamstuff No, it was the LTN. Traffic was at a standstill and bus services were seriously impacted, including beyond Lambeth, when there weren't roadworks. It's why the London Mayor stepped in.

LibDem council candidates are “strongly opposed” to the return of the #Streatham Wells LTN, which brought the area’s transport system to its knees before Lambeth was forced to ditch it, almost exactly two years ago -- Full article >>> streathamstuff.co.uk/article/202603…

@ssico1 @streathamstuff The stated reason for not implementing the Valleyfield Road filter (as part of the Streatham Wells LTN) is that it would haven been too dangerous to have vehicles turning around on a steep incline.

@ssico1 @streathamstuff It would be more reassuring if the Lib Dems had a clearly-stated borough-wide policy not to implement further LTNs and to review the effectiveness of existing LTNs. The same applies to CPZs. FWIW, the Streatham Wells LTN covered all or part of *three* wards (eight councillors).

Clear explanations of the true facts around @lambeth_council LTN strategy. Attempting to reduce 5% of traffic emissions while making it worse for the remaining 90%. Non-LTN borough Wandsworth beats them in all traffic metrics: youtu.be/kjRBMMceZJ0?si…

@streathamstuff Given the above and given the traffic volumes on Valley Road and the difficulty crossing Streatham Common, my guess is that the cycleway will stop on Sunnyhill Road. It does seem odd that the signage has appeared without information being available on TfL and Lambeth websites.

@streathamstuff So far as I saw, on Friday afternoon, there was new 'C48' signage between Leigham Avenue and Sunnyhill Road but *not* on the section of Valley Road between the roundabout and the common - only some faded cycle signs without the 'C48'.

Labour marks its territory in #Streatham Wells -- council moves ahead with "healthy route" cycle scheme, which seems to require the closure (again) of Valley Road and also a cycle lane straight across the common -- full article >>> streathamstuff.co.uk/article/202603…

It's 3:25PM on a Friday and traffic along Sternhold and Thornton Avenues towards Streatham High Road is already, according to Google Maps, backing up to Criffel Avenue. Doesn't auger well for rush hour journey times including for #50 and #255 buses. #A23StreathamHillWorks
