There's a personality trait near (dis)agreeableness that drives some of us. When in a room where everyone agrees & the choir starts congratulating itself it feels like a waste of time. We're usually there because we agree broadly but there's almost always a few valid points the opposition has, so that's our time to play buzzkill & suggest maybe we try to address some of those issues. It's usually around that time we stop getting invited to such gatherings because it's decided that obviously we're spies for the other team. And so it goes.

A healthy society needs people who get nervous when everyone in the room agrees. I am, admittedly, one of those people. A First Amendment “freak,” as @sullydish put it. Enforced consensus is the oldest costume tyranny owns.
