@k_eagar @susan_taylor07 In simple language…rancid capitalism. An outright ban might be a bridge too far, but I’m all for taxing the fuck out of them. No short term rental should qualify for any tax break like negative gearing or capital gains. There should be a license & fee to run a short term rental.

Can someone please explain in simple language why Australia shouldn't ban short term rentals like Airbnb? If we did that, it would free up literally thousands of houses and bring them back into the rental market & discourage investors owning multiple short term rental properties
