I realise I’ve been getting Leo Woodall and Lewis Goodall mixed up all this time.

Watching @wearejames last night was an incredible experience. 43 years since they formed, now 9 strong, and, in my opinion, they are better than ever. @RealTimBooth changing the setlist in real time to match the crowd's energy shows how their gigs are more than just playing songs

@RealTimBooth @BandLaid This is the only advantage of being a writer. You can't hear the cries of 'self-indulgent prick', only intermittently imagine them ~

Last night we got heckled with the line "play something we know you self-indulgent pricks". So proud of that. Must've expected 2 hours of Sit Down, not the likes of Five-O, Life's a Miracle and Isabella

@OedipasKvass To me, it seems shallow and dated, with nothing like Pynchon's verbal dexterity or wit. Still, mildly less of a disaster than Zero K

I gather it changes over the course of 700 pgs, but why did no one tell me how funny The Magic Mountain is? I assumed (maybe due to Ryan Ruby's outspoken distaste for it) it would be rather staid and tedious, but this is vivid and mellifluous reading—wish I'd gotten to it sooner

@YouTube On that note, why has YT suddenly applied Restricted Mode to my account, and why won't it let me turn it off? I'm very adult and live in a house without children ~

"Thinking of Melville, thinking of Poe, thinking of Mark Twain and Vachel Lindsay, thinking of Jack London and Tom Wolfe, one begins to feel there is almost no way of becoming a creative writer in America without being a loser." Nelson Algren, born March 28 1909
