Booth or sideline: where should your team’s play caller be? Inspired by @CoachDanCasey. 20 seasons. 5,431 games. 10,700+ caller-team observations. Offense: Sideline 22.88 PPG | Booth 21.35 Defense: Booth 22.32 PPG allowed | Sideline 22.57 Offense performed better with the play caller on the sideline. Defense performed slightly better with the play caller in the booth.

@RyanPaganetti @CoachDanCasey Yah similar to coaching change effect. You could increase the sample size if you looked at college over 20 years if you’re into masochism

@Stuckey2 @CoachDanCasey they got sideline credit if on sideline for a week and booth credit for if in booth all the changes were picked up. Most of the times an in season change happens there it is because things are not going well and the team is making other changes too. Has not occurred often

Putting together the Bengals team preview and had to do a double take. They gave up 9 defensive TDs last season?? More than double the next team. 5 were of 60+ yard variety too. I remember a couple of them but man that's just insane work
