@the_transit_guy And thats what a plane ticket used to cost round trip. You can’t use the sudden closer of one company, look at the market reaction and then compare it to a train ticket. The airline market will compensate and rates will lower again.

While domestic airlines gouge passengers, in Spain you can go 400 miles (the distance between SF/LA, Chicago/Minneapolis, or DC/Charlotte) in 3 hours for just $73. We’ll do anything but provide rail service to this country.

@bestinclassyt My guy, like 25% of consoles had this. I had this happen on mine, got a refurbished replacement, that failed like 6 months later, then got a third, THAT failed and finally got a good FORTH unit that lasted and I still have.

@SenatorMurray @animerobin0 @the_transit_guy I never said airports didn’t have projects done to them since they were built to maintain them. But, again, we could build 50 of the Denver expansions for the cost of a rail that has served 0 passengers so far in California

@StvnAd @animerobin0 @the_transit_guy Ah. got it. Because it sure seemed that the point you were trying to make is that airports already exist and because of that, they aren't large capital outlays of public funds on them. And as proof, you cited the fact that the last major airport was built 30 years ago.

@SenatorMurray @animerobin0 @the_transit_guy The fraud and waste is irrelevant. Denver was the last major airport built in the US. Nothing about expansions was being discussed. And even after brought up, remains comically small in comparison to any rail project happening in the country.

@StvnAd @animerobin0 @the_transit_guy You literally brought the Denver Airport into the conversation. You pointed out that it was the last new major airport built and that it was built over 30 years ago. the fraud/waste is quite relevant because it has been a consistent issue for that Denver Airport during its 30

@SenatorMurray @animerobin0 @the_transit_guy I found the first link I could find. You’re the one who brought up the fraud in the Denver project, which ti be clear is irrelevant. That could be funded 50 times with the California unfinished rail project.

@BillySakmann @bumbadum14 That doesn’t exist. I’m talking about ticket prices of rails that exist in China and Europe; ticket cost.

@StvnAd @bumbadum14 I’m so confused. I thought we were talking about the train, that exists, and brings you from NY to LA what were you even quoting a price on…?

I’m tired of pretending that 400 dollars is “expensive” for a round trip flight from la to New York. You people are insane, it’s never been cheaper to travel across one of the largest countries in human history.
Hayden@the_transit_guy

Domestic air fare is not going to get cheaper in this country, and we’ve ignored rail investment as we thought that cheap flights would always be a thing. That’s not the case, and now we have no rail as a viable alternative.

@BillySakmann @bumbadum14 A high speed rail from NY to LA would cost around a trillion dollars and when complete would take 15 hours at the top speed of the fastest high speed rail today, with no stops. Absurdity.

Dave Ramsey says the same house his parents bought for $12,000 is now worth around $600,000 "My parents bought a home for $12K. 25 years later Sharon and I bought a home almost identical to that for $80K" "Now 40 years later that house is $600,000"

@animerobin0 @SenatorMurray @the_transit_guy The point of this was to illustrate how unfeasible this is in the US. You could pay for 57 Denver airport terminal expansions for the cost of this single stretch of unfinished rail.

@1800GUTS Maybe. But realistically most airports only offered a few options anyway. I’m going to guess someone like frontier picks up the slack pretty quickly.

Yall don’t understand how bad it is for Spirit Airlines ending operations. There will be fewer options to fly. There are only so many other airlines. Fewer airlines = fewer choices. Which will make your Delta, United, Southwest, and American flight more expensive…..
Pop Crave@PopCrave

Spirit Airlines is preparing to shut down after a proposed $500 MILLION government rescue program fell apart. The company has been dealing with debt & rising costs after filing for bankruptcy.

I also had some pretty good experiences on spirit. And weirdly, their planes always felt newer than other airlines. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Delta flyer when I can but as you mentioned spirit was always great for a good deal. I’m curious what failed in their model after 30 years?

Y’all are celebrating but the reason flights at other airlines were sort of cheap was the demand with spirit in this economy. Now every other airline can raise tf out they prices. I also don’t wanna pay 400 dollars to go from Orlando to ATL 💀 thats ridiculous

Spirit never had a fatal crash let alone crash ever in their 30 years of operating. Idgaf I loved flying spirit. Especially when in emergency when my God mother passed and I had three days to make it there spirit charged me 127 dollars everyone else was charging me 350+.

@disneytiktok yup, I was just looking up flights yetserday and they basically doubled overnight. We'll see how the market adjusts, I'm sure someone is going to buy up their assets and fill in the void; probably Frontier or JetBlue

If Spirit Airlines really ceases operations at 3am ET Saturday, that’s not just one airline disappearing, it’s a major shakeup for the entire U.S. travel market. Even if you never fly them or never planned to, their ultra low fares have been keeping prices in check across the board. Fewer budget options means less competition and higher fares on routes nationwide. This is a big loss for travelers everywhere.
