@goodlifeyoda @devoncpowers While for high end private that may be the case, but female golfers are up 41% since 2019, new golfers topped 3 million for the 5th straight year and junior golf is up 36%. These people are all starting out at public facilities that offer more options .. just food 4 thought

They look ‘sexy’ for the stay and play groups at both private and public, but at core privates that don’t have accommodations, they are largely unused. A lot of labor expended on something that doesn’t move the needle. Everyone arguing for more of this is looking at Brandon-type properties to reference, not member-centric clubs with under 50 Nationals.

The Top Golf sale is a perfect encapsulation of where we are currently in the game. Callaway made a 2 billion dollar bet on exposing non-traditional golfers to driving range golf hoping they’d become core golfers and buy Callaway’s clubs and balls, long-term. This naturally didn’t work because: 1. Actual golfers hate the concept and execution. No one wants to see drunk and non-drunk people top shots, shank, body pirouetting after a shot, yelling/wooing after a shot, showing up in jeans or bros with their hats backwards hitting golf balls as hard as they can while eating nachos between shots. 2. The 10-12 acre facilities are in the middle of town and total eyesores. It’s the ugliest business in every town they occupy. 3. Similar to bowling, the only people that go are big groups for “team building”, double-dates, and birthday/Christmas parties. To survive the business needs recurring revenue, not customers that show up 2x per year. 4. The menu is microwaved and/or fried Sysco bag food and the waitresses don’t look like Hooters girls from the late 80’s and early 90’s - when they looked like they could be on Baywatch. It’s hard to imagine losing 1 billion dollars in 4 years on what should be a core competency. This should be a lesson to all golf-related businesses chasing non-core golfers, but it won’t be. The powers that be will continue going after the lowest common denominator. The End.

@goodlifeyoda @devoncpowers I just asked for data, not trying to dispute or discredit your claim, but you made an assertion and I wanted to see what data you had to back it up. From what I have seen in AZ for example is a boom in night golf and shorter courses, but that’s just my personal experience

Tons of chatter about the course at last week week’s U.S. Open at LACC. So I thought I’d ask you guys: If you were king of golf and could have the U.S. Open anywhere you wanted, which course would you pick? The only two requirements are: 1. The course in the the United States. 2. The course has never held an Open. You can ignore all pesky logistical issues like protecting par, room for luxury suites and fans, and whether the club would actually agree (as king of golf, you can crush all resistance). Here are my four picks: 1. Pine Valley (who wouldn’t want to see this) 2. Tobacco Road (the players heads would explode) 3. Friar’s Head (I legitimately think it could host) 4. Cypress Point (could you imagine the guy with the one shot lead stepping to the tee at 16?) What’s your pick?

@Styx_Amsler Not bad at all, I would throw in a feel of turning the grip ( flexion in the lead wrist to get the face into a better position as you start the transition) this will allow you to be able to work down from the top without having to steepen to get the face closed on the ball.
