Wes Streeting's audition for PM must offer something more than the same failed red lines as Keir Starmer. We can’t solve the cost of living crisis without repairing the damage done by the Conservative's botched Brexit deal. Starting by negotiating a customs union with the EU.

I think the PM is a voice of reason and sense, however I wish he had dealt with the BBC and been bolder in EU membership.

Speaking at Progress conference, Wes Streeting is scathing about the government he has just left. “We then had a dishonest leadership contest, followed by an overcautiousness in opposition. Interesting policy ideas couldn't be floated because we were too afraid of what the Tories might say, so we said nothing. Instead of a willingness to challenge ideas and kick the tyres, debate was viewed as division and shut down. As a result, we arrived in government underprepared in too many areas and lacking clarity of vision and direction.”

Streeting publicly announced he will join any leadership race, also tells Progress: "Britain's future lies with Europe & one day, back in the European Union." Burnham had already hinted in that direction during Labour conference … but he is trying to win over and represent a top 100 2016 Leave constituency… Interesting dynamic.

Barnham is going to lose this by election. The numbers do stack up, but more importantly electors who voted for Keir Starmer and his manifesto are now signing up as Labour members in their thousands.
