The NCAA has a strict policy - and precedent - over gambling, especially gambling on your own team, which Sorsby did in a limited capacity as a freshman at Indiana. Betting on your own team is a "permanent loss of eligibility,” according to the NCAA guidelines.

NCAA has not concluded its investigation of Sorsby for sports gambling, which normally follows the school deeming a player ineligible before requesting reinstatement. Sorsby sent a letter to the NCAA on Friday acknowledging his gambling and asking for an expedited resolution.

Per the suit, Sorsby is "currently ineligible to play for Texas Tech due to prior violations of the NCAA's sports gambling rules" and would be "irreparably harmed" if the injunction isn't granted. The NCAA has yet to make any public declarations on Sorsby's status.
