Ponies grazed by the ruins of South Kit Hill Mine and were friendly. Probably because they thought I had food in my bag, which I didn't, but that didn’t stop one from tugging at it. Perfect for me to caress their soft coats.

The branches of a twiggy, weather-sculpted tree crackled and swayed in the wind, adding to the spectacle of Kit Hill, Callington.

The ruins of South Kit Hill Mine date back to 1856, when the engine house was built. Before then, since the 15th century, tin mining had been carried out above ground from long, narrow pits.

Kit Hill, Callington, is special. A place whose name derives from ‘kite’, an Old English word for the bird of prey. The heathland is lush with flashes of yellow gorse, cheery against winter's muted hues.

@TheFriendMag The Twelve Days of Christmas was my favourite this year. At a carol service at my grandson's school, the children acted out each verse and was so much fun.
English

@TheFriendMag I really enjoyed The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier, and currently reading Monica Dicken's, Mariana which I haven't been able to put down.

I was elated to see Mistletoe nestling in the boughs of apple trees at a local orchard. A sumptuous feast for birds, as well as making beautiful Christmas decorations.
Happy Winter Solstice, everyone.

Another image featuring mistletoe to go with my latest blog post. It's an illustration I painted for Clarence Noel, a story written for my son and daughter when they were young.

There was usually a sprig of mistletoe hanging in our home when I was a child, a custom associated with myths & legends. Some countries believe it is a symbol of love and peace. A perfect decor for the times and season.
