🇮🇱🇱🇧 Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir: "We need to cut the electricity in Lebanon." This lunatic minister wants to plunge Lebanon into darkness. Ben-Gvir is a war criminal with a government seat.

🇮🇱🇱🇧 Israeli Min. Ben-Gvir: "If the Lebanese government does not control Hezbollah, then the territory south of the Litani, and even south of the Zahrani, must become a security zone for the State of Israel." A good excuse to take over foreign territory

Israeli National Security Minister Ben-Gvir: In light of the reactions around the world, you can understand one thing: Israel has stopped being the punching bag of the Middle East — and I’m proud of that. The policy I lead is not a policy of giving them sandwiches and flowers. That doesn’t help. It doesn’t help. They come again and again and again. They mock us. They call us suckers when we behave the way they expect us to. You saw that even the Europeans apparently learned something — surprisingly, it works. The message gets through.

National Anti-Corruption Commissioner Paul Brereton has resigned from the role, following persistent questions about his suitability and performance in overseeing the accountability body. The resignation comes a day before Brereton is due to appear in front of the Senate Estimates hearing into legal and constitutional affairs. When Greens Senator David Shoebridge asked Attorney-General’s Department Secretary Katherine Jones about the development, she revealed she had missed the initial notification as Brereton’s resignation letter was sent to the wrong email address.

With the crossbench and the @cpi_aus for the launch of their report into how to make our integrity agencies truly independent - coming the day after Commissioner Brereton resigned it could not be better timed.

@Mon4Kooyong @AlboMP Australia is losing $31.5B a year to gambling—the worst per-capita losses on Earth It is built on addiction/deception/targeting the vulnerable with rising suicide rates Half-measures won't work. A complete ban on gambling ads and an Independent National Regulator required

Time’s up. The Albanese Government must do better, to stop Australians being the world’s biggest losers, with gambling losses of $87 million every day. We must ban gambling ads and establish a national regulator. After waiting 1000 days, the Government’s response on gambling reform is underwhelming, but the public support for stronger action is overwhelming. The crossbench is united in asking the Government to listen to Australians.

@joekent16jan19 @ClancyTucker Agree. True security isn't achieved through endless conflict. Australian politicians need to take a firm stand against offensive actions targeting Iran or Lebanon. De-escalation must be the priority, and our diplomatic backing should reflect that. #AusPol #Diplomacy

The announcement by President Trump about the potential peace deal is very good news. To make the deal effective we have to be realistic about Israel. We must recognize that a peace deal of any kind with the Iranian regime will be viewed by Israelis as an existential threat to their objectives, therefore they will seek to thwart the deal. To stop the Israelis from thwarting a potential peace deal, we will have to take away the military support that we provide that allows them to go on the offensive against Iran, and make it clear more will be taken from them if they attack Lebanon.

Defence is now stuck spending billions on experimental plans to keep the ageing Collins submarines in the water long enough for AUKUS to come good. It turns out that neither part of the plan is on track, and the multi billion dollar cost is being borne by the Australian public.

Appalling footage of Israel's Minister Ben-Gvir attacking human rights activists including Australian citizens. Penny Wong has summoned the Israeli Ambassador but will she tell him she's concerned or if there are going to be real consequences like ending the two way arms trade.

@SenatorWong The absolute least we should do is expel the Israeli Ambassador. This is an outrage. These people are clearly not our allies. Stop treating them like they are.
