This is my first project in C++ i made a while ago with raylib. while it's 100x times harder to make a game without an engine or an editor, it's surprisingly just as fun if not more. it has around 700 lines of cpp that took me 2 weeks, learned tons of new things as i was going

The charging port in my ThinkPad laptop melted down due to overheating, using a laptop in Sudan's summer without an air conditioner is a recipe for disaster. fixed it temporarily by separating the wires with fiberglass sheets.

Solo game jam participations: 3 Winrate: 0% 1st Jam: slow gameplay 2nd jam: unbalanced & no tutorials 3rd jam: unrealistic scope & so many bugs i loved how wavedash team sent personalized evaluation letters to all participants in the last jam, it shows that they do care

a demo where you have to guide an npc character throughout a maze instead of moving yourself. the npc uses gemma-4-e4b for responses, it's running at 50tops thus it takes time to respond, using gemini api might be a better approach.

Testing out different approaches for the battlefield, the open warzone looks more fun than trying to shoot down 1 or 2 drones in a minute but ofc you won't spawn in the middle of this

@techfocusjames thanks!. the scope my brother originally gave me was completely unrealistic, so i had to skip sleeping the last day and work on it non-stop just to have a working simplified loop

@Sumi64Bit Bugs and all, finishing a survival loop in 48hrs is solid. I love the family collab angle too! The title art and lantern warmth set the mood perfectly. Did you scope down from something bigger or start tight? 👏 #IndieDev

Snowing for Eternity a survival, cooking, and management game. the title art is done by my brother. the ideas are by my second older brother. the rest is me. honestly it's full of bugs and is far from polished, but not entirely bad for a 2 days project.

We picked SHELTER because it's the kind of theme that means something different to everyone. And we're already seeing that play out.

It is easier to make a game without an engine or editor, because with an engine and editor you are only making 1/3 of a game, and there are real tradeoffs for not doing that other 2/3. Engines and editors are fantastic, but they always come with tradeoffs and you need to contort to fit your game into how they want to be used. Congratulations on making your game it looks awesome!

@LifeArtStudios so you still have to build the engine to make the game. engines offer lots of time-saving features other than a map editor like animation editors, 3d inspectors, scenes, and so on. if i made a 3d game using an engine in 1 week, it'd take me months without one.

@Sumi64Bit not having an editor makes building an engine way simpler for me. I'll make a map editor something I can do at runtime in the game, but otherwise I tend to find editors have really obtuse ways of authoring content compared to a tool like blender or houdini

@Sumi64Bit Looks great! Just starting out building a simple little project using Odin and raylib. A bit overwhelming if you haven’t done it before. Looking forward to the process though.
