New personal project that streams geometry data from a DCC like Blender to the web using three.js. github.com/stackaby/geoca… Still early days... Next up is improving orientation from Blender and adding a better camera #geocast #threejs #blender

@sleitnick I've been wanting to do the same. Began going through the learn OpenGL book. Where did you start?

I've really been enjoying my dive into graphics programming. Endless cool stuff to learn. I am flailing around, trying to understand as much as I can. I have so much respect for the experts in this field; they're real-life wizards.

Starting going through the godot docs. I'm excited ro play around with it! I like the design philosophy. I think the way godot allows you to respond to signals in a decoupled way is such a flexible and great idea.

If AI can be considered a modern day "Tower of Babel" — "nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them", what would God do in this situation? We've already got too many languages. Maybe combine them all into one and force us to write java... The things that pop into your head in the shower...

@stackabydev If Unity, yes! However, wait a little bit because we're about to launch a new bundle quite soon. I'll paste the link here 🙂

I'd like to do more game dev (or begin 😬) but I've got a personal project where I was experimenting with streaming geometry data from Blender into three.js in real-time. This week I'm also continuing to learn OpenGL. Might be fun to create little one-off engines to replicate old retro games.

alright let me break this down for you… everyone celebrating universal basic income as the answer to ai taking all the jobs has no idea what they’re actually asking for… you will own nothing and you will be happy. you will depend on the government for every dollar. they will decide how much you get, what you can spend it on, and they will make sure they can turn it off whenever they want. that’s not freedom that’s a leash with a direct deposit where you won’t be able to ever earn more this is the beginning of communism “we’ll take care of you” has never ended well in the history of civilization. not once… and if you want to know how the story actually ends go rewatch the matrix. a system that keeps you alive just enough to be useful while extracting everything from you. ubi isn’t a safety net it’s a cage. they literally hate you. and they’re going to convince you to walk into it with a smile on your face

JUST IN: Elon Musk says AI will make jobs "optional" in the future due to "universal high income."

Some of the best things I learned are from reading programming books. The major benefit is that they are a guided exploration of the topic through somewhat consistent lens of the author? And if you do the exercises and follow along, you absolutely do learn

i just don’t get it what’s the point of reading programming books? or basically any technical book? like you aren’t gonna retain anything out of it anyways.

One of my favorite pasttimes is visiting used book stores. Picked these up in the #math section. It'll be a little while before I can get to them (growing reading backlog), but I love collecting math books.

@wholyv I don't know. I think there's something important about reading stuff for yourself for the sake of reading it x.com/Sally_Sharif1/…
Dr. Sally Sharif@Sally_Sharif1

I just gave a closed-book, pen-and-paper midterm exam in my 300-level course at UBC with 100 students. All exams were graded by an experienced graduate-level TA according to a rubric. *** The average was 64/100.*** My class averages at UBC are usually 80-85. Context: • This was the first midterm, covering ONLY 4 weeks of material. • Students had a list of possible questions in advance: no surprise questions. • Questions included (a) 3 concept definitions, (b) 3 paragraph-long questions, and (c) a 1.5-page essay. • I have taught this class multiple times. Nothing in my teaching style changed this semester. • We read entire paragraphs of text in class, so students don't have to do something on their own that wasn't covered during the lecture. • Students take a 10-question multiple-choice quiz at the end of every class (30% of the final grade). • Attendance is 95-99% every class. Attention during lectures and participation in pair-work activities are very high → anticipating the end-of-class quiz. *** But unfortunately, I suspect many students are not reading the material on the syllabus. They are asking LLMs to summarize it instead.*** After the midterm, students reported: • They thought they knew concept definitions but couldn't produce them on paper. • They thought they understood the arguments but struggled to connect them or identify points of agreement and disagreement. My view: It might be “cool” or “innovative” to teach students to summarize readings with ChatGPT or write essays with Claude. But we may be doing them a disservice: reducing their ability to retain material, think creatively, and reason from what they know. If you only read what AI has summarized for you, you don’t truly "know" the material. Moving forward: We have a second midterm coming up. I don't know how to convey to students that the best way to do better on the exam is to rely on and improve their own reading skills.

Even in "the Age of AI (trademark)", I'm going to continue to pursue the difficult and challenging things. I don't care about the "do everything for me" button. I care about personal growth.

I don't think you failed. Took me too long to realize what I needed to do in life or what ai was even interested in. I say take a small break, breath some fresh air, think through what you like to do, and get back at it. Start small. Build what you like. Filter out the noise. Post what you're building or only when inspiration hits. I don't think that life is necessarily a competition that you need to "win" over someone else you perceive to be more competent or talented. Just start small and keep building.

Except for a select few right? If universal high income exists, will the concept of "high" mean anything in that situation?

Every night when my wife and kids go off to sleep is an opportunity to learn something. Continued to learn a bit about typescript. Now it's brushing up on some 3D math and reading a paper about AI. Gotta keep pushing!
