Maybe people don’t believe me, that’s fine, but visiting Ukraine has been deeply touching for me. It has opened my eyes to things I was blinded to before and has really impacted the way I view human suffering and how I perceive humanity and threats to US national security. My time in Ukraine has been life changing. I’m never going to forget this and I’m interested in seeing what else it inspires me to do and report on in the future. You’ll have to travel to Ukraine yourself and see it yourself to understand what I am talking about. Never thought I’d say this. But, I see why Lindsey Graham loved Ukraine so much. I see it now.

This is insane The Islamist terrorist who attacked a Berlin pride festival yesterday Was previously convicted of planning a terrorist attacked But released on the condition of needing to attend 26 anti-extremism therapy sessions @GadSaad’s suicidal empathy at its most potent
Andrew Hammel@AndrewHammel1

Amazing things are being revealed about the Berlin Christopher Street Day attack suspect. All infos are of course still provisional. His name is Abdul Bellout, and he was born in Germany and is a German citizen of Lebanese descent. Germany has a large Lebanese community thanks for refugees who arrived in the 1980s during the Lebanese civil war and ensuing chain migration. There are many Lebanese crime families all across Germany, it's unknown whether Bellout was part of one of them, but authorities are looking into the issue. He is 21 and has a long criminal record including extortion and assault. He was most recently convicted for "preparing a terrorist attack, attempt by means of encouragement or threat" under German Penal Code §89a. He was sentenced under youth sentencing law despite being an adult, which is common in Germany. Apparently he boasted of having contacts to ISIS. The US State department warned in 2024 about possible ISIS attacks on gay-themed events in Europe. Bellout was released in May 2026 from youth prison. Under the terms of his parole, he was required to attend 26 "counseling sessions" with the "Counseling Group on Deradicalization and Extremism Prevention". He had gone to two of them, during which employees said his answers appeared calculated and insincere. He was due to attend his third "counseling session" tomorrow. archive.ph/BQk3w

A story about Amara's law and why this is important with AI rn. The first time I saw video transmitted over the internet was in 1994 with a tech called CU-SeeMe in a program called Global Schoolhouse. It was tiny 320x240 grey scale image at about 4fps. Audio was over a land line. Students at multiple locations could see each other and talk, and little else. The next time was that same camera pointed at the stadium for the Lilyhammer Olympics. It did not replace NBC :-) I saw the closing ceremony as a stamp-sized still image of stadium lights, and little else. Those were enough for many people to be convinced that internet video was the best big thing. CU-SeeMe became one of the earliest pure play internet video companies (and one of the rare users of UDP!) It was also enough to convince the cable companies that internet video would never happen. I demonstrated this technology to countless CEOs and luminaries from my office at Microsoft. There was a near perfect correlation between age or corporate seniority and doubt vs. enthusiasm, consistent with everything internet and most tech back then. Today everyone uses internet video with resolution often higher than the tv they routinely use at home. And those cable companies that doubted internet connectivity and video distribute 4K tv over tcp/ip. These things roughly followed Amara's law saying that people [enthusiastic supporters] often over estimate progress/impact in the short term and other people [incumbents] often under estimate progress/impact in the long term. When people say AI is not ready or even more strongly AI will never do a certain, just keep in mind Amara's law and internet video. That is happening right now.
