An interesting tidbit of history is that many prominent leaders in the Confederacy, including Jefferson Davis, had dreams of a tropical empire that spanned the Gulf of America and extended down into South America.

One of the last kenwood great families. In kenwood we don’t get any good public schools with the property taxes. The streets never get plowed timely. Have to call and bitch to the city every month that the seven pools is disgusting. Kenwood park is never mowed. The bike path around lake of the isles is barely serviceable. Had to bitch to the city after they tried to shut down the ice rink on isles (the only benefit to living here now).

They use Minnesota as a political whipping boy whenever it's convenient. We're not built for all this ugly attention. This place is supposed to be third-tier quiet, pleasant, high-trust, cozy, cold as hell, artsy but not careerist, not status-obsessed, not the main character.
