Friends, as we reflect on the events of the last 24 hours, I want to remind you all that democracy has never risen or fallen based on the actions of any one leader. It’s always thrived only when the American people demand that it does. So our charge, for all of us in the years ahead, will be to continue to stand firm and speak out against anyone, no matter how powerful, who tries to take away our voices, our votes, our freedom, and our democracy.  I’ll continue to proudly wave that flag and march into battle with that as our charge.   I hope we also all realize and are grateful for the tireless work of election officials over the course of this year and these last several weeks.  These professionals - be they Democratic, Republican or Independent - are the best of us.  May we all continue to stand with them and ensure we remain in a country that lives up to that one person, one vote promise embedded in our Constitution.  May none of us give up on that ideal.  It is who we are as a nation, and as republic. Onward.

Darkness has always been and will always be around us. Hope, however, shines like a light in these dark times. Hope lights up our inner strength and helps us keep going, even when things are tough. Don't give up on hope—it's what keeps us going when times are hard. From my snowy sanctuary of the Yukon, I send forth a beacon of hope. 🧡

The world faces challenging times, with polarization and fear prevalent in many societies. From social media hostility to global conflicts, from self-centric politics to religions being used to divide people, negativity seems to be taking up a lot of space and becoming louder than ever. Yet, it's vital to maintain faith in humanity. Despite these challenges, numerous examples of human kindness, cooperation, and resilience exist. Communities unite in crises, people show selfless generosity, and grassroots movements strive for positive change. These stories remind us of the goodness in people. Another school shooting is unfolding as I type this. I'm at a loss of words. Why was Sandy Hook not enough to stop this. Why was Parkland not enough to stop this. Why was Uvalde not enough to stop this. I'm so fucking tired of this!

Another shooting. This time. This is what I said in the wake of the Oxford High School shooting in 2021, what I shared again after Uvalde in 2022. And after Kansas City, Philadelphia, Maine, Tulsa, MSU, Nashville. Today it's Georgia. Another shooting. This time.

We are barely a month into the academic year, and 4 people who woke up to go to school or work will never return home. Beloved teachers and students were killed, 9 more were injured, and we are grieving with the families of #ApalacheeHighSchool whose lives were forever changed! We need to push forward common-sense gun safety legislation at every level of government. #GunViolence #CommonSenseGunLaws #SchoolShoting @StudentsDemand @MomsDemand @Everytown

This is America. Not even a month into the new school year and we're seeing kids running for their lives from classrooms that were supposed to be safe spaces. My heart breaks for the victims at Apalachee High School and the families affected. It's time to stop putting guns over children—our communities deserve to live free from this senseless violence.

Police are responding to a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Our children should be able to go to school without being met with gun violence.
