There is only one thing I hate more than lying. Skim milk. Which is water lying about being milk.

Why aren’t we sleep fasting? Since periodically restricting my sleep, I have trained myself to function (better) on less I used to require 7-8 hours. I am now outperforming on 5-6. Contrast therapy - accepted. Fasting - accepted. HIIT - accepted. Deliberate sleep restriction - never discussed. Hormesis applies universally across every biological system (except the one the wellness industry monetises most aggressively) The pattern across all hormetic interventions is identical: 1. controlled acute stress 2. recovery 3. supercompensation. We know: - The dose makes the poison. - The recovery makes the adaptation. (This is not controversial in any domain except sleep) What else do we know? Sleep deprivation triggers BDNF upregulation. (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor - The same molecule everyone celebrates when discussing exercise, meditation, and learning). Drummond's imaging data shows the brain recruiting compensatory networks under sleep debt - Parietal regions dormant during comfortable, well-rested cognition suddenly activate. Periodic sleep fasting, employed strategically + paired with proper recovery, accesses adaptive mechanisms that build resilience. (Resilience that 8 hour regularity cannot achieve) We’ll see how long it takes Huberman and the like to catch on

Jimmy Carr's new bit on Islam 🤣

A signal in your brain - fired AFTER exercise - decides whether your body adapts at all. Block it? Training did nothing. Boost it? 2x the work output and 3x the endurance gains. This might be the most important exercise paper in years. Here's what they found 🧵

EXCLUSIVE: an insider at USAA provides footage of the company's recent Diwali event. It looks like a Tim and Eric skit. Remember, while USAA throws parties for Indians, it ignores American holidays and its veteran employees are committing suicide from stress and layoffs.
