There will be a House of Lords debate on Severe ME on Thursday June 18th 2026. The debate has been secured by Baroness Scott of Needham - the Liberal Democratic peer who has a long history of supporting people with ME/CFS in Parliament. The MEA has provided Baroness Scott with background information on very Severe ME for this debate. 4/5 Oversight and Regulation: The rapid adoption of synthetic mesh was a massive failure in global healthcare quality and safety. Many devices were fast-tracked through regulatory systems without sufficient long-term clinical trials.

5/5 Training and Alternatives: 🚨The medical community has acknowledged that mesh was sometimes used indiscriminately, including by surgeons who lacked specialised training to properly implant the devices or manage the complex complications when things went wrong. Now, the strong consensus is to ensure that non-mesh ("native tissue") alternatives and non-surgical options are fully discussed with patients first

MY surgeon joking in Oct 2012 about damage caused by the #perinealpost to one of his patients. He states how he proceeded anyway even though he had the wrong sized post. Not all patients recover, some of us are left with devastating permanent sexual dysfunction. #wilfulneglect
