Sweden has confirmed its intention to join the Agreement for the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. We are happy to welcome the 🇺🇸 participants of this edition of the 🇪🇺 🇺🇸Emerging Leaders Visitors Programme, on their 1st stop in Brussels, which will be followed by Stockholm and Linköping.  The focus for the programme is digitalisation and AI and our aim is to strengthen our already ongoing cooperation in this field. We see a serious escalation of events in Iran and the region. Together with the EU, Sweden has already imposed sanctions on the Iranian regime. We stand with the brave Iranian people. Their rights must be respected. The Iranian regime has killed thousands of its own citizens. Sweden knows well what the Iranian regime is willing to do to innocent people, including citizens of other countries. It is in Sweden’s and Europe’s interest that Iran is never able to develop nuclear weapons. Iran’s nuclear program and its support for terrorist groups have for a long time been a destabilizing factor. Sweden stands by our allies. We call for restraint, the protection of civilians, and respect for international law. Swedes in the region are urged to follow the travel advice of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. We are closely monitoring how Swedish security is affected. I will convene a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the implications for Sweden and the safety of Swedish citizens.

Appalled by Russia’s destruction of Ukraine’s energy and heating infrastructure, deliberately causing a humanitarian crisis for Ukrainians this winter.   I spoke with President @ZelenskyyUa today and informed him that Sweden will provide approx. 95 million euro to meet immediate needs, such as provision of generators and heating equipment. Sweden stands firmly by Ukraine’s side.

Today, the EU has reached a political agreement to include Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on its list of sanctioned terrorist organisations. This is something that Sweden has long pushed for. This signals a strong and clear stance against the Iranian regime’s brutal repression and security-threatening actions.

Sweden is the most free‑trade‑friendly country in the world, and we trade with almost the entire world. Today, EU and India launched a new era of cooperation. Through a groundbreaking trade deal between two economic giants, alongside a new security and defence partnership, we show that prosperity and security are built through partnership, trade, and deeper cooperation. Excellent news for growth and competitiveness in Sweden, Europe, and India.
