These decisions undermine the viability of a two-state solution, are contrary to international law and will harm the ongoing peace efforts. A sigh of relief and happiness for many families today as they get to meet family members again after more than two years in captivity by Hamas. I share the happiness with the released hostages and their families, and I share the sorrow of the families that never get to meet their loved ones again. Thanks to the impressive efforts from the US, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, there is now a real chance for peace. Sweden fully supports President Trumps’s peace plan, leading to a permanent ceasefire, the return of urgently needed humanitarian aid and ultimately a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Today we mark two years since Hamas’ horrific terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. We share in the sorrow of the families and express our hope for the swift and safe return of all the hostages, and for an end to this war.

Appalled and saddened by reports of an attack at a synagogue in Manchester, in which several people were killed and injured. The fact that this happened during the observance of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur makes it all the more horrific. My thoughts are with all those affected by this attack.
