@CodyAlanAllred @HlNOMARUSUMO What you’re describing is called a manipulation, not a monopoly. (Sony is manipulating the market to help push the digital future.) Just like what some of you guys are doing, manipulating the situation and trying to make it fit into the term “monopoly.”

Unless Playstation plans on selling digital codes in third party retailers that can be discounted, Playstation owns the entire pipeline where people can buy their playstation games. Thus, legally making it a monopoly. Sony also legally has the exclusive rights in the final say of prices on their platform.

Community Notes misuse strikes again. Sony has the right to disapprove any pricing, that's what the clause mentioned in the note means. Otherwise some indie clown can list their game at $10000 or whatever to troll or launder money. But Sony does not sit there writing out the prices of every title, which is what the former SVP is saying. The individual publishers do that. It's crazy how this feature was meant to counter misinformation, but due to its flawed design based on appealing to popularity (basically just vote a note as "Helpful" enough times and it's published even when misleading), it's now used to spread misinformation.

Former PlayStation Store SVP says Sony does not set PS Store pricing, individual publishers do, and therefore Sony does not have a monopoly If you’re mad about digital prices, complain to publishers, not Sony. Sony has no say in 3rd-party store prices ▶️ insider-gaming.com/exclusive-inte…

@Rec0nn76 @NextGenPlayer That’s not how it works. This is why experts go to school and get degrees to keep balance in a system where the consumer doesn’t understand laws and partnerships. I only blame Sony for not finding a way to help with that but it’s not always easy. This is why it fails in court.

@SwissGstone @NextGenPlayer At the end of the day the one who is making the call to go full digital is playstation. So no matter what is being said it is their fault and always will be regardless of the pricing outcome.

@SwissGstone @NextGenPlayer You clearly missed the the used game market. Sony store and retail have to compete with lower priced used games. It's an an option for Sony players on how to purchase games. Or rather... was an option

@BluesW15 @NextGenPlayer In other words if you don’t like the price and it’s cheaper on Xbox then you can always buy the game there instead. This is literally what it means to not have a monopoly.

@BluesW15 @NextGenPlayer And yet somehow you still got it wrong. Sony competition on ps is … ps. This only affects their consoles and games. Now if they were to make all those 3rd party games exclusive then it’s a monopoly. Think about it, if you can get it on pc, Xbox or Nintendo then you have options

@Rec0nn76 @NextGenPlayer You’re moving the goal post to still find a way to blame Sony. Get over yourself and understand that this is why Sony is not monopolizing the market and giving them freedom to market and price the games how they want. Sony is a platform and must also respect their partners.

@NextGenPlayer so instead of PlayStation doing something about them they.... checks notes.... enables them to do it more by making all games digital. do i got that right? if it gets worse or stays the same it is still in fact playstations fault but taking away literally any other option.

@TheLastRonin714 @SaberZer02 To be fair at launch they had an all digital version of the console with disc drive not being a mandatory. This means the disc drive was always an option not a promise.

@SaberZer02 What a flawless comparison. A console sold with a disc drive is obviously identical to a platform that never promised physical media in the first place.

The EU saying it can’t stop Sony from abandoning physical games raises serious consumer protection concerns. Millions bought a PS5 expecting physical games to remain a supported option throughout the console’s lifespan. If that changes mid-generation, where are consumers’ rights?

@assikOMG @MichaelShourd @bengardez11 @shinobi602 Please take in mind this is not what a monopoly is. This would only be a monopoly if it directly effect or impact their competition in an unfair way. PS cannot compete with themselves when it comes to how the choose to distribute the content they sell to their consumers.

@MichaelShourd @bengardez11 @shinobi602 The DMA was created to stop gatekeeping. As consoles go 100% digital and phase out discs, Sony has a total monopoly on its ecosystem with zero price competition. If the current law doesn't cover this lock-in, the regulations need to evolve, thats it

@assikOMG @shinobi602 You cannot monopolize your own content in the way you’re describing it. Sony has every right to charge what the want just like we have every right to go elsewhere. They only cater to an extent and do enough to keep us happy overall but they’re still a business. Their goal is $$$

@shinobi602 This also completely ignores the massive antitrust issue, forcing a digital only ecosystem breaches the EU’s own fair competition rules. The EU should already be stepping in to mandate alternative digital storefronts on PlayStation

@assikOMG @shinobi602 It’s true but also they can’t force a company that shuts down to continue to support or run certain games that are live service. It’s realistically unrealistic. If the business goes unfortunately so does your game. That’s pretty much the odd something that cannot be forced.

@shinobi602 True, but they can legislate to ensure that digital products behave exactly like physical ones making them actual user property, ensuring they remain accessible even if a company shuts down, and giving users true ownership

@PlayerEssence It sucks but this isn’t gaming related nor is it their primary. Sony didn’t pull it from you the actually owner of the property who sold you the movie through PlayStations platform pulled it from you. Sony didn’t have the right to keep it so the other company took advantage.

@Beastiarii @JamiesAct It’s slippery right because now if some people are talking about they want it on disc because it gets cheaper than digital the company could be looking at it from a perspective of losing money just to lose more money so going digital will benefit them too. Especially EA

@JamiesAct Duhh they would devs don’t pay the CD company to make discs unless they self publish themselves.. and they probably would because the physical copies are going to sale it really is a free W
