This is not true humans basically have the best stamina out of every animal. We have evolved to walk for long term distances. You shouldn't go from 1k steps a day to 15k and you shouldn't slowly work up, but our bodies are absolutely made to endure the stress of 10k

Literally the way we used to hunt was by walking long distances after a running animal until they got too tired to run anymore. If anything the stress of walking is good for our bodies because it's low impact.
