@PeterMcCormack @bedspolice Good on you Peter. Enough of people on the gravy train taking our taxes and failing to deliver. I wonder if mass refusal to pay business rates and council tax is our only real option. The Social Contract is in pieces. Peter for major! And then PM 🤘

🚨 An Open Letter to the People of Bedford and Bedfordshire Police @bedspolice 🚨 To the residents, business owners, and authorities responsible for our town’s safety, I refuse to stand by and allow the continued decline of our town centre due to inaction by Bedfordshire Police. Bedford is a historic and proud town, yet right now, it is being allowed to rot. The situation in the town centre is unacceptable. We have a growing issue with drug addicts, alcoholics, and homelessness that is threatening the economic viability of our businesses and the safety of our residents. The Reality in Bedford Town Centre Local business owners are being plagued by relentless shoplifting, which not only costs them money but also puts their staff in danger. We pay our council taxes and business rates, and in return, we have the right to expect a police force that protects the people who live and work here. But right now, there is a massive safety crisis in Bedford—especially for the women and children of this town. People actively avoid the town centre because they feel unsafe. The multi-story car parks are a no-go zone for many, as they have become dens for drunks, addicts, and beggars, deterring visitors and costing businesses valuable foot traffic. We have laws in place to address these problems, yet they are not being enforced. The Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that bans public drinking is being openly ignored. We all see the groups of people gathering at the green space at the bottom of De Parys Avenue, outside Tesco on the High Street, and near the Salvation Army, openly drinking and engaging in fights. Worse still, drug dealing and drug use are happening in broad daylight—on the High Street, in the multi-story car parks, and even in public toilets near the Corn Exchange. If I can see it, the police can too. The consequences of this lawlessness are clear: fewer people visit the town centre, businesses suffer, and boarded-up shops become the norm. Less commerce means fewer jobs and a weaker community. Bedford should be a thriving, vibrant centre of activity—but instead, it is being turned into a dangerous dump under your watch. This is happening because you have failed to allocate the resources necessary to deal with the problem. You take our taxes but fail to protect us. My Response: Taking Action Where You Have Failed As a resident, taxpayer, and business owner in Bedford, I will not accept this any longer. It is also unacceptable that you divert the majority of your resources to Luton while Bedford is left to decay. Therefore, I am putting you on notice: If you fail to address these issues and provide a clear, effective plan to protect the businesses, women, and children of Bedford, then I will. This is my plan: 1. Private Security Initiative – I will work with local business owners and concerned residents to establish a private security team for the town centre. Under Section 24A of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE), citizens have the power to arrest individuals committing indictable offences. We will enforce the laws that you refuse to: i. We will make it clear to the small minority of alcoholics, crack addicts, and dealers that their behaviour is unacceptable in the town centre. ii. We will confiscate open containers of alcohol. iii. We will document drug dealing and report it. iv. We will work with charities to offer addiction support to those who genuinely want to get clean. 2. Tough But Compassionate Approach – I am empathetic to the issues of homelessness and addiction, but suicidal empathy destroys towns and cities. We have seen what happens when we allow disorder to spread unchecked. I refuse to let Bedford go the same way. I am willing to work with the police and council to implement solutions, but the responsibility to enforce the law should fall on the police. 3. Town Centre Revitalisation – Law and order is just one part of the solution. A vibrant town centre must also provide opportunities and experiences that attract people back. It is time to rebuild our town centre, ideas such as: i. Empty Shops Initiative – We need to make vacant units more attractive. This includes: - Ensuring all empty shopfronts have attractive facades, such as local art or photography displays. - Encouraging landlords to provide short-term pop-up spaces for local businesses. - Exploring grants for local entrepreneurs and artists to set up in empty spaces. ii. Tackling Absentee Landlords – The council should introduce a tax on commercial properties that remain empty for more than six months, with funds reinvested into revitalising the town. iii. Business Rates Reform – Business rates cripple small businesses. Charity shops thrive because they get 100% rate relief—why can’t we extend similar support to new businesses? We need a business rate relief programme that supports independent traders. iv. Making Bedford a Cultural Hub – we should push for more weekend cultural events to make the town centre a more attractive place to visit, including: - Permitted busking zones for talented local musicians. - Public performance spaces for theatre, comedy, and art exhibitions. - Create a local task force of residents, business owners, and council representatives. - Develop a 10-year vision for a pedestrian-friendly, modern, and safe town centre. - Secure funding and government grants to execute these changes. I love this town. I was born here. I run businesses here. Bedford is not beyond saving, but it needs strong leadership, not excuses. We need real solutions, not politically correct platitudes. To the police: This is your chance to step up and prove that you are committed to protecting the people of Bedford. If you refuse to act, I will. I am happy to meet with anyone who wants to discuss these plans and work towards making Bedford the town we all know it can be. Yours sincerely, Peter McCormack

Celebrating my 24th birthday today with some sushi. 🥳 The past year has been undoubtedly the craziest of my life. I’ve experienced both the highs (and lows) of newfound wealth, moving to an entirely new continent away from family/friends, mental health, personal growth & more. I thought I'd take this opportunity to share some of my biggest learnings/observations I've had over this past year. Maybe some of you will find them valuable. 1. Live in the present, not the future or the past. I’ve been making a concerted effort to focus on being present, and also looking more objectively at my thoughts and emotions - instead of getting lost in them. 2. Discipline beats intelligence every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I’ve always intrinsically “known” this, but this is the year where it REALLY set in. Most of my success thus far isn’t attributed to natural ability, so much as it is my diligence. I recognize that my ambition/obsessiveness may be a (somewhat) natural trait, but I’ve really learnt to lean into it to get what I want (gamifying tasks, setting fun goals etc). Eventually discipline compounds and creates remarkable outcomes. 3. The importance of family/friends. This is probably the biggest thing I’ve sacrificed since moving to Dubai. And at times it's been tough. Firstly, I have newfound appreciation for my parents, and everything they’ve done for me. As I’ve moved away, I’ve had time to reflect on just how pivotal they’ve been in my success. As for friends, you really can’t win at life without them. The world is a pretty lonely place when you have no one to share your success (or downfalls) with. I probably value and recognize real relationships much more than I previously did. 4. Getting “rich” isn’t what I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, being rich is still 10x better than the alternative. But it won’t solve all your problems, your loneliness, or your mental health issues. In fact, it probably compounds these issues. Not to mention the paranoia attached to keeping wealth. Half the battle is earning it, but keeping it is just as difficult - and it’s not something you can ever really be prepared for until you’re in that position. It’s a good problem to have, of course, but it’s still another obstacle to navigate. 5. Health is all we have. Money is useless if you’re sick. I was lucky this year not to run into many complications, but there were short periods where I fell quite ill and it really hit home. Especially now that my job relies on my productivity. It wasn’t like that at school, or when I had a 9-5, because you were always compensated for being sick. Now, if I’m sick - I literally lose thousands of dollars per day (in opportunity cost). I prioritize health over everything nowadays (sleep, exercise, diet *just let me eat my sushi, ok?* 😂) 6. Balance is important. Making money, in and of itself, isn’t a sustainable source of joy (at least not for 99% of people). You need other things in your life. Hobbies that are genuinely fulfilling. Recently I’ve started connecting with my musical side again (piano and singing). It feels good. Sport is also something I’m getting back into (padel and tennis mainly). It’s not only a great way of burning calories, but also fun/social. Overall, I feel extremely grateful to be in the position I am at my age. Not just financially, but the experiences and opportunity I've been given to grow as a person. I also feel more settled with who I am than I ever have been, but I’m still aware of my own weaknesses and am eager to improve. Hopefully 24 can teach me some more valuable lessons and provide another platform to grow. Thank you all for being on this journey with me. 💙

Following our 3-0 win, we received a complaint from @MKdonsFCWomen via the FA as I called their manager a "24 Carrot Cock". They also complained about my photo in the programme. Their manager was shouting abuse at one of our players so I'd just like to be as clear as possible, he is a 24 Carrot Cock & fake Wimbledon can kiss my arse. Peace ✌️

@heresyfinancial I'm not making any excuses. I am not poor. I came from a poor background which helps me understand poverty isn't a simple 'you're not trying hard enough' game. It's nuanced and complex like many social and economic phenomena. You didn't really answer my questions either Joe.

You're not poor because billionaires took your "fair share" of available wealth You’re also not poor because the government robbed you of the opportunity to create wealth You’re poor because you blame others for the outcomes of your own actions The hard truth: You’re poor because you’re just not good enough The bad news: There will always be others trying to benefit themselves at your expense The good news: You can change your results (you’re actually the only one who can) So stop paying attention to things you can’t control Blame yourself and take responsibility (regardless of fault) if you actually want to improve your life Get after it. Make the decision. No matter what it takes, no matter the obstacles. Figure it out and create some wealth for you and your family.

@ScottishPower 45min wait time to use your app!? Seriously guys. Does Scottish power not make enough profit to scale out your app to actually be usable? I think this is the only time I've ever seen this issue with an android app, ever!

@Zopa Yep looks like it thanks. For anyone else with the issue, looks like some DNS blocking as I use my own forwarder on my local network that was probably blocking a URL the zopa app added. Using mobile data didn't have the issue

@Zopa hi zopa, when is your app going to start working again? I've made two calls to support and have been told you are aware of an issue and working on it. I can login but can't see any balances for several days. Haven't seen any comms about your issues either.
