The unfortunate downfall of Manchester United has served as a breeding ground for an even more unfortunate media phenomenon. Of course Goldbridge doesn't actually think Bruno personally sacked three United managers. Nobody in their sane mind can think that a single pro player or a couple of pro players got managers sacked. But that's not the point. The point is that framing things in this way elicits the maximum level of response and engagement from United's fanbase, either to defend or attack Bruno. The bigger the target, the more volatile the response. And the more volatile the response, the more clicks, comments, shares and views. That's just how the fan media ecosystem works today, wang dang doodle. And it's not like the sponsors and shareholders mind the attention, even if it's soap operatic in nature. I'm thus incredibly grateful that we have some fantastic people and analysts here on Twitter, and that we have high-quality professional content produced by top outlets such as the Athletic. Kudos.
