Having leftist politics is being right from the offset and liberals catching up 5 years after they condescended and chastised you to high heavens for it. And never getting any credit or contrition.

'What the hell happened?' As an inquiry reveals Captain Tom's family benefitted from their links to a charity set up in his name, James O'Brien says: 'Looking back, we should have smelt a rat a lot earlier'.

The Western media erased the racist violence of Tel Aviv Maccabi hooligans in Amsterdam. Those thugs naturally felt emboldened, that they could get away with anything. Here are the consequences in Paris.

AT LEAST 2 French supporters have been attacked by a mob of Israeli fans inside the Stade de France during the France vs Israel game. @UEFA this game should have never been allowed to go ahead. You have put the life of fans at risk.

A bit of evolutionary biology for a Saturday morning*: all toads are frogs but not all frogs are toads. And the distinction between toads and frogs is just that toads tend to be terrestrial, with dry skin, whereas frogs tend to be more aquatic, with wet skin. 1/6 woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2024/02/w…

@T2Toaster @ebullienteddie Yeah but having a marginal rate way above 100% is radical. It makes no sense that you can end up with *less* money after a pay rise.

Imagine a parent with 3 children, an undergraduate degree, and a postgraduate loan on 60k gets promoted and earns a 20k salary increase. Their employer now pays an extra £23k for their salary (inc employer NICs), but the employee gets just £4600 of this. HMRC gets £18400.
Ed@ebullienteddie

@georgeeaton 77% if you've got a postgrad loan, you have 3 kids and you earn 60k.

@ebullienteddie Yeah, but I think it’s a poor framing for the very correct argument of “our system punishes parents and graduates who aren’t from well-off backgrounds” to focus on the effects on the well-off.

@T2Toaster HMT own figures suggest that a 48% income tax rate represents the maximum which can be applied without disincentivising growth, which informed decision making on the additional rate for earners over 150k. But millennials with children? Tax them till the pips squeak.

@Hardymatt0 @ebullienteddie Though ofc 'who do you tax to spend?' is a bit of a fallacy as most of the spending we need is in health/education/infrastructure that pays for itself in growth/reduced costs. The function of taxing billionaires *should* be to limit power accumulation (e.g. Elon Musk...).

@Hardymatt0 @ebullienteddie Well, we were talking personal tax rates. In *general*, I'd tax multinationals - it's clear they have a *lot* of spare money being spent unproductively (e.g. ~$250bn global spending on GenAI in 2024).
