Juke Harris is a good player. However, Juke Harris is not remotely close to $5M+ good.

@RaphealDavis3 Big difference in 6 ppg and 3 ppg. And Mara was a 5 star recruit, a top 50 transfer and Reibe was almost a 5 star as well. Big difference in those guys asking for big money compared to Joe Random, Center from Bumfuck State that’s asking for big money because he’s 7’0

@TCole59 Yup depending on the player and the budget. Aday Mara averaged 6 ppg last season and was the most important player on the National Championship team this year. Reibe averaged 5 ppg for UConn this season; he will demand $1+ million.

Every college basketball coach tells players not to place their value solely in scoring, preaching that “a good player can be effective without necessarily scoring.” However, coaches now use points per game as a metric to assess a player’s value. Unbelievably hypocritical.
Jeff Goodman@GoodmanHoops

One high-major head coach to me: “This has become a joke. We got guys who averaged 3 points a game asking for a million dollars. It’s completely out of control.”

Wake Forest AD John Currie wrote today that Juke Harris was made a "very competitive revenue sharing offer" to remain with the Deacons. GIF reaction of your choosing on that one.

@YoYoDills @carterfogarty24 @TheFieldOf68 Players might have to pay a small buyout and that’s it. Wake football had an OL that signed an extension and a month later transfered to Texas. Wake had a basketball commit that signed his deal and 3 months later decommits and is now going to Illinois. They can leave if they want

@MichNasty86 Cadeau, Burnett and Johnson were all top 40 recruits in their HS class…Cadeau being top 15, Mara was a top 50 transfer and Yaxel was the #1 transfer. AND 2 top 100 freshman. Yall were preseason top 10 too. Yeah man, just a band of misfits that’s were never supposed to work out🤣

@MaizeSignal If this happens there better not be a single post about how Dusty May took a bunch of rag-tag, overlooked, underdogs and turned them into a powerhouse. That starting 5 alone is worth over $15 million

Excuse my ignorance on this. What year did we start letting 9 year olds take leads & steal bases? When we were 12 foot had to be on the base. Stealing at 9 years old & taking leads might be the dumbest thing to date I have seen on a baseball field at any level.

@statefansnation I think there’s a rule that a player cannot be cut for performance in college. Off-field/court stuff, yes they can get cut. I’m all for it tho. You’re paying a kid $1+ million to suck? Hell no go find a new school after first semester and we’ll find a Euro pro to give the money

Players and agents don't want to hear this, but in today's era of college basketball, there are a lot of things that make sense for schools -- like: * cutting a player & stopping payments mid-year if they aren't performing * culling your roster and cutting multiple players in the middle of the year if the season isn't going well and you're not playing for anything * cutting players in the middle of the season if they are distracted with life issues like getting arrested, having babies, or issues at home or whatever is keeping them away * forcing players to pay for their own education since there's no reason for the schools to be paying for it anymore. * shutting off the top tier medical support that players get after they are cut * shutting off access to facilities and anything related to the program after a kid announces an intention to go into the portal Since kids aren't going to give a commitment to be at your school for more than one year...then why would schools commit to even an entire year? Let's go day by day so everyone can be treated fairly. Imagine a world whereby a school can save half their NIL or more in a season by letting a few players go. Imagine what that does to their bankroll to buy new mercenaries next year. Strictly business, right?
Rod Bridgers@rod_bridgers

State fans don’t want to hear this but in today’s era of college basketball it makes sense. New coach who P2 needs to get to know while seeing what other opportunities are available for him. Strictly business.

@PorterZoey6481 @heitner @JayBilas I know it would never go through. I’m just saying people are trying any possible way to give their school an edge because there are literally no rules with nil or paying players

Great points by @JayBilas. UNC is "tampering" with coaches under contract. The NCAA isn't busy creating policies to limit that conduct. But it's not OK for players under contract to communicate with third parties because they may benefit? Schools complain about finances, but are on the hook to pay fired coaches tens of millions of dollars. No one is begging Congress to cap coach compensation. But compensation to athletes must be capped? College sports "leaders" need to continue to be called out. For the "SAVE COLLEGE SPORTS" crowd, let's start talking about how much money those "leaders" are earning. Maybe their salaries should be capped, as well?
Mit Winter@WinterSportsLaw

As @JayBilas correctly points out, there’s a lot of hypocrisy in college athletics right now. It’s only when athletes begin to get paid that it’s necessary to have a federal law to “save college sports.”

@heitner @JayBilas You’re also forgetting the whole “school”part of COLLEGE basketball. They are STUDENT-athletes. Nobody is arguing that they shouldn’t be paid. They’re arguing to regulate how they make their money, how many times they can transfer, enforcing contracts, among other things

@heitner @JayBilas Well a coach is employed by the school and the players aren’t. The state of Mississippi is trying to make NIL non-taxable income. So who’s at the disadvantage here? Players are “unemployed” and making more money than 99% of all people and there’s no rules with how they make it
