The corporations that hold manufacturing contracts, charging $5,644 for a $10 (or less) part, aren’t going to let 3D printing take that from them.

Eirick Schule developed a 3D-printed replacement for the MUOS antenna mast in April 2025, cutting costs from $5,644 per unit to about $10 and reducing delivery time from over 7 months to 10 hours, with 107 units produced and an estimated $600,000 saved.

Anyone that thinks it’s not possible should travel to Cantril, IA. In the 1970s, American car companies made a huge mistake - sticking with gas guzzlers when high oil prices led people to demand for fuel efficiency. They were overtaken by Japanese cars.
Now they’re making the same mistake all over again- sticking with gas guzzling SUVs when EVs have become the superior technology. This time it’s China rather than Japan that will win.
