Five Chicago police officers were injured early Sunday morning, May 24, 2026, after a car plowed into them on the city's Near West Side. The IncidentThe collision occurred around 3:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Loomis Street in the Little Italy neighborhood. Officers on foot were attempting to disperse a massive crowd, estimated at roughly 500 people, who had gathered for a large teen block party. While the police were clearing the area, an 18-year-old male driver operating a blue sedan sped westbound in an eastbound lane, mounted the curb, and struck the group of officers. Witnesses reported seeing multiple officers thrown into the air from the impact. After hitting the officers, the sedan collided with a parked Chicago Police Department vehicle, a utility pole, and a fence before coming to a stop. Casualties and InjuriesOfficers: Five officers were transported to nearby area hospitals. All five were listed in fair condition. Preliminary reports indicate at least one pedestrian was also injured during the crash. The driver of the sedan was not injured. The 18-year-old driver was immediately arrested at the scene. Officers searching the vehicle subsequently recovered a firearm inside the car. Formal charges against the driver are currently pending. Sources indicate that police arrested at least 14 people total during the broader unrest at the gathering, including two passengers who were inside the driver's vehicle. Area Detectives are actively investigating the incident.
