@rwillowfish CBT and DBT are both marked by helping people build awareness to how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. From this foundation, people can learn to evaluate their own psychological experience and try different ways of navigating their problems. Acceptance and change!

@jmhorp @_JackSalmon_ This chart seems misleading. It looks like October is the main selling month, so we may not be seeing the the 2025 data of soybean sales. Not sure we can make claims about soybean sales in 2025 without it.

I am excited to share a new paper titled “Designing for Disclosure in Data Visualizations” set to appear at IEEE VIS 2025 (link below). 1/n

@EikoFried 1) What does it mean to respond to treatment? 2) Can we improve self report assessment for psychopathology? 2) How can we utalize a multidimensional approach (e.g., symptoms, treatment mechanisms, Quality of life) in evaluating improvement over treatment)?

Psychologists & related fields: what is a big methods question that you believe remains somewhat unanswered & that you'd love to see adressed? There may be an opportunity for a large-scale meta-science project w many teams trying to figure out a question. Any thoughts welcome!

Most research papers should be a brief report with an interpretable results sections including figures and explanations of findings in plain English.

CBT is awesome. - Cognitive Restructuring: Get rid of negative thoughts - Behavioral Activation: Stay active, feel better - Problem-Solving: Address challenges directly - Exposure Techniques: Confront fears, reduce them Unlike endless psychoanalysis or revisiting obscure childhood drama (jokes at psychodynamic), CBT often delivers quicker results. While I prefer psychodynamic therapy, I value most therapy approaches. Psychiatry has bigger challenges than debating therapy types. Harsh comments on X about certain therapies sadden me. If you dislike one, it may stem from a poor, manualized version or a caricature.

@RianKMD We likely have a degree of free will that is largely predetermined by biological and psychosocial factors. Amphetamines can be very helpful for kids, as they were for me, but can have major side effects. Not sure meds can fix a under resourced system, no matter how hard we try.

Why is amphetamine so polarizing? This drug makes us wrestle with uncomfortable questions: Do we have free will? To what extent is pathology defined by social conventions/demands vs biology. Does a kids’ brain need to change vs does the environment (school) need to adapt?

Another semester done teaching undergraduate statistics to psychology students with R:

@Jas_Hughes I tried day 1 but couldn’t figure out how to read in the data to R or how I was supposed to put my answer on the website. How did you do that?

Day 2 of #AdventOfCode in both #Rustlang and #rstats. I was pleased with my solution for part 2 that let me re-use my part 1 solver. The R code is more concise since `diff` comes built-in.

@DoctorPerin I feel that cog restructuring without core belief work misses the bigger picture.
