Uruguay is the 6th largest exporter of meat worldwide. They have branded their livestock as unique and of unquestionable quality. Accompanied by senior Kenyan government officials, the private sector and development partners, we visited La Pedize, a large crop and livestock farm in Uruguay that breeds, fattens and sells livestock mainly for export. Key to note was the importance of disease control as well as livestock identification and traceability in livestock trade - if you can’t trace the cow to the farm, you can’t sell its meat. Together with my team, we shall work day and night to make livestock the biggest contributor to our Kenyan economy and a major creator of jobs.

Today in Rawinji, West Kamagak, we kicked off the distribution of sunflower seeds to our sunflower farmers across the county. This exciting initiative will see a total of 27,250 kg of sunflower seeds being provided to 7,000 farmers, who will plant them across more than 7,000 acres of farmland. Our ultimate goal is to produce high-quality edible oil, marking a significant step towards ensuring food security and economic stability in our community. On behalf of the Ministry PS @DrRonohpaul welcomes you to Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit (AFSH) from May 7th- 9th, 2024, at the @KICC_kenya in Nairobi.

The county has started the journey for commercialisation of maize farming. We have signed a deal with Joy Millers to buy Muranga maize at Ksh 3500 per 90kg bag. 17500 women will be mobilised to form a grains cooperative- 500 women per ward.

Today AFA-Horticultural Crops Directorate held capacity building forums in various counties, to sensitize on the Avocado Strategy, Avocado Quality requirements and Horticultural Crops Regulations. The Ag. Director HCD - Christine Chesaro noted in one of the forums that these initiatives are geared towards fulfilling the Authority's strategic focus in increasing Avocado production & productivity and enhancing Avocado quality from farm to market. The forums also sought to have discussions around the complementary roles played by AFA and the Counties, (as provided for in the Constitution and Horticulture Regulations) in the development of the Avocado value chain.

Today I opened a two day Workshop for the State Department of Agriculture Heads of Department and Parastatals CEOs at Naivasha.

I accompanied CS for Agriculture Mithika Linturi during the tour of NCPB Oleguruone and Elburgon depots to inspect the progress of fertilizer distribution and interacted with farmers in Nakuru county.@kilimoKE

This afternoon, I visited Olenguruone @NCPB_KE depot in Nakuru County, to inspect distribution of subsidized fertilizer to our hard working farmers. I guaranteed our farmers that Govt is distributing certified subsidized fertilizer that's approved by KEBS & other govt agencies.
