Slightly hot take... the Aronimink set-up stinks. I'm not usually one to wade in on how a course is set-up but I think the data suggests this isn't a great set-up. Let me explain. I wrote a piece earlier in the week (see reply below) looking at the data from past events at Aronimink. Yes, they were a long time ago and the 2018 BMW played very wet, but all three events were essentially putting competitions. ▫️In 2018, Keegan led the field in putting and won. Of the players who finished in the top 10, eight ranked in the top 10 on the greens. ▫️In 2011, Nick Watney led the field in putting and won. The top five on the leaderboard that week all ranked in the top 15 putting. ▫️In 2010, Ryan Moore led the field in putting and finished one back of Justin Rose (4th in putting). 5 of the top 6 players on the leaderboard ranked inside 16th or better in putting. That year, of the top 6 players in strokes gained approach, two missed the cut and none finished in the top 15. The strategy at Aronimink appears to be, get it on the green, then try not to three-putt. Potgeiter hit 5 of 14 fairways and ranked 63rd in proximity on his approaches, yet he is co-leader after 18 holes. Of the 7 players tied for the lead: • 5 are in the top 15 in putting • 2 are in the top 15 in driving • 1 is in the top 15 in approach • 1 is in the top 15 around the green My point is this, what do we consider both entertaining and valued at majors? Is it players avoiding three putts, or being rewarded for high-quality tee shots (Open courses), executing precise approach play (think Augusta and US Opens) and the ability to show creativity and skill around the greens (again, Augusta)? None of the top 6 players at this year's Masters finished in the top 15 in putting. Was that an entertaining watch? What was the challenge that week? I know, it's early in the tournament and yes, players that putt well "tend" to score well. But if this plays out for the week, like it has the last three times Aronimink has hosted a Tour event, I fear it could be a flat week. For the record, I hope it's not.

@Cam_Jourdan It's also a Thursday for an LPGA event, won't be that packed sadly. And yes, there needed to be more advertisements and the tournament failed a bit. Maybe it was trying to ride on the success of the Houston Open.

Maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places, but there wasn’t a single sign or ad promoting the Chevron during the Houston Open last month. Maybe contracts prevent that, but thought it was really strange and a missed opportunity

On a positive note. I experienced excellent customer service from Tesla last month. I was on the first day of a week long road trip over Spring Break with my family. When I stopped to charge the car, I got an error message: “AC Charging unavailable. Service required.” I dropped the car at a nearby Tesla service center, which was closed until the next morning. The next morning, Tesla ordered the faulty part, but it wouldn’t arrive for several days. Our trip could have ended right there, but they managed to hook us up with a free loaner so we could continue on our trip. And at the end of the week, the car was fixed and ready to be picked up. It was also fully covered by the warranty. Thanks @elonmusk for empowering people at @tesla to provide great service. They really came through for us last month. Anyone else have a time when you’ve experienced exceptional customer service?

@fried_egg_golf Making a permanent alteration to the course all for the sake of "tradition" is poorly done cliché at best. 18 didn't need a pond there and the tradition should've died a while ago. Make a new tradition with something Texas/Houston related!

@UziCryptoo What home value do you have in Texas that you would get in California? If you move from a big city/suburb of a big city, you will pay far less in the home value in Texas. The net property tax would be similar, if not cheaper, in Texas.

6 years of living in Texas and I've come to the conclusion that the no state income tax thing is basically a scam. The property taxes are so high that they negate any savings. We are still paying as many taxes in Texas as we would in California. You save on gas I guess.

I think there’s only one city in the entire United States that can say “weather is pretty good all year round” and that’s San Francisco with its 55s-65s degree days.

Austin is a great city for Texas standards and an overall a 2nd tier city in the U.S., comparable to Seattle or Miami… but to say that the weather in Austin is great all year around is criminal. At least 5 months of the worst humid summer.

@cfparma16 @BayouBikeyBoi They'd be good if they stayed at 2 lanes max. Instead, they're 4 lanes wide and people are coming off the highway at highway speeds then trying to cut across those lanes to make a right turn. Or someone is coming out of a shopping mall and trying to make the u-turn.

@BayouBikeyBoi To the fair, the one-way feeder road (with u-turns) is a really good design for moving lots of cars It just runs into the same issue every other road design does: cars are very space inefficient for moving people (Plus highways encourage ugly development alongside them)

My favorite TXDot bit is using the same crappy frontage road and low capacity service interchange design, acting shocked when it doesn’t work, and never changing anything about the design
