It’s well known that Israel utilizes facial recognition tech for collecting & supplying data to AI systems that identify Palestinians as military targets. Now a university governing council is—on record—considering facial recognition tech, AI & drones to surveil its own students.

“Thank you, University of Toronto students, faculty, and alumni,” said the children of Gaza in early May. Our hearts break upon hearing that “over 20,000 children are estimated to be lost, missing, detained, or buried under rubble or in mass graves.”

But one member of parliament said only 0.5% of @UofT supports the anti-genocide students ;)

As graduation month at UofT starts, the school is forced to tolerate our presence just outside Con Hall only due to their inability to get TPS to clear us. All 12 universities in Gaza have been destroyed, a that reality The UofT President denied knowledge of just two months ago

When I was 3, my family moved to Canada from Nigeria. As a kid, I don’t remember much of the journey, but as Muslim immigrants struggling to get by, my parents must have been overwhelmed by the experience. A few years later, we settled in a basement apartment on Gerrard St. near Coxwell. I attended Bowmore Public, the only Black kid in my grade 1 class. We later moved to a cramped 2-bedroom at 666 Spadina, where I shared a room with my siblings — we had two bunk beds for the four of us. I went to Lord Lansdowne, still the new Black kid facing discrimination. In the 30 years since, racism and discrimination is no doubt alive and thriving. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Anyway, wtf is Lisa even talking about?
