Alison Botha's story is one of extraordinary resilience. On Dec 18, 1994, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the 27-year-old was abducted at knifepoint by Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger outside her home. They drove her to remote bushes, raped her, stabbed her abdomen 36 times (disemboweling her), and slashed her throat 17 times (nearly decapitating her), then left her for dead. She held her head together with one hand, pushed her organs back in with the other, and crawled to the roadside. Motorists found her; doctors called her survival a medical miracle. Both men got life sentences. Alison later wrote the book *I Have Life* (1998) and became an international motivational speaker. A 2016 documentary, *Alison*, tells her full story.
