The Ottawa Police Service is mourning the death of one of our members who passed away on Friday. The death is not believed to be suspicious and is being investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police, as is standard practice. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and colleagues, and supports are being put in place for them and all members affected by this loss. This is difficult news for our Service. Policing exposes members to loss, trauma and deeply challenging situations, and events like this can affect people in different ways. Anyone who may be struggling is encouraged to reach out—help is available.

My Private Member’s Bill C-243 will be voted on next week. It is a simple modification to the Corrections and Conditional Release Act that will prevent murderers from re-applying for parole every year and inflicting further trauma on their victims’ loved ones. Thank you to Dianne and Mike Ilesic, parents of Brian Ilesic, for your advocacy in support of this Bill. It is my sincere hope that all MPs will vote in favour of this Bill moving to the next stage in the legislative process. Here’s the full story by CTV Edmonton: ctvnews.ca/edmonton/video…
