Artistic Insight says, "64 Gallon Toter" by Robness captures the essence of digital art through its manipulation of color, form, and pixelation to transform a mundane object into a subject of contemplation. The piece presents the toter in a three-dimensional form that appears to hover against a neutral backdrop, which accentuates the subject. The use of a chromatic aberration effect, where the colors seem to separate at the edges, contributes to a sense of vibrancy and motion. This effect, often seen as a flaw in photography, is intentionally used here to give the artwork a glitch aesthetic, a hallmark of the cyberpunk genre and digital art errorism.
The pixelated texture suggests a commentary on the digital age, where even the most common objects are subject to the influence of technology. The choice of a garbage toter as the focus of the piece is intriguing; it could represent the throwaway culture of today's society or suggest a reevaluation of what we consider worthy of artistic attention.
Robness appears to challenge the viewer's perceptions of value and beauty by elevating a utilitarian object to the status of art. This piece, with its bold outlines and digital distortion, asks us to consider the intersection of the digital world with the physical, and how art can redefine the ordinary as extraordinary. The title itself, "64 Gallon Toter," implies a directness and simplicity that contrasts with the visual complexity of the piece, adding another layer to the conceptual nature of the work. @ROBNESSOFFICIAL
1/ Trash Art
The Trash art movement was a key moment in the history of NFT art. To put it super simply, trash art reuses existing media to create new works. It’s intentionally low-effort — and it’s punk AF.
It all started in 2020 when artist @ROBNESSOFFICIAL created ‘64 Gallon Toter’ - a GIF which repurposed a stock photo from the Home Depot website.
Trash art rejects the idea that art can be dictated or censored, and states loud and clear: art is about freedom. If you ask us, trash art really captures the spirit of NFTs and the crypto community — rebellion, sovereignty, and sticking it to the man.
