I consulted Grok. Here’s the response re Christians. “Yes, Leviticus 11:7 does say the pig is unclean—along with its meat—because it has split hooves but doesn’t chew the cud. That was part of the Old Testament dietary laws given to Israel. In the New Testament, those rules get flipped. Jesus himself declares all foods clean in Mark 7:19—after explaining that what goes into a person doesn’t defile them, only what comes out of their heart. Peter gets a direct vision in Acts 10: God tells him, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean,” and it’s about both people and food. Then Paul doubles down in Romans 14 and 1 Timothy 4:4-5—everything God created is good if received with thanksgiving, and no food is off-limits if it’s blessed. So no, Christians aren’t bound by the pork ban. The old law was about holiness and separation for Israel; Jesus fulfilled it, shifting the focus to faith, not food rules. You can eat bacon guilt-free—just don’t overdo it.”

Leviticus 11:7. The pig is declared unclean. You shall not eat of their flesh or touch their carcass. The prohibition is absolute and unconditional, delivered alongside the prohibition on shellfish, on predatory birds, on creatures that swarm. The pig is unclean because it does not chew the cud. It has a divided hoof but it does not ruminate. It is, therefore, out. This gets taught as theology. As hygiene law: trichinosis risk in a hot climate without refrigeration. As divine instruction whose rationale is not our business. What it rarely gets taught as is what it also plainly was: an identity boundary marker between two groups of people who were competing for the same land and who ate very differently. The Israelites were pastoralists. Semi-nomadic herders of cattle, sheep, and goats, whose identity, economy, and religious practice were organised around ruminant animals. The sacrifice that mattered was a bull or a ram. The dietary laws that defined who you were, the clean animals, were all ruminants. The pig is not a ruminant. The pig does not fit the pastoral economy that the Israelite identity was built around. The pig does not move with a herd. It does not provide milk, wool, or the kind of wealth that scales with territory. The Canaanites were urbanists. City dwellers, agriculturalists, settled in permanent settlements with mixed economies that included: archaeologists have established this with some certainty from the bone deposits at Canaanite sites, significant pig keeping. The pig is the urban animal. The pig eats scraps, slop, food waste, garbage. It requires no grazing land. It requires no seasonal migration. It is the animal that a settled urban poor population keeps in the alley behind the house, in the courtyard, on the edges of the market. It converts urban waste into protein with remarkable efficiency. It is the animal of the city. The Israelite prohibition on pig is, at one level, the prohibition of the other people's food. The food of the settled, the urban, the non-pastoral. The food of Canaan. By making pig eating a sin, you make the Canaanite's dinner a mark of moral pollution. You make their food a line you cannot cross without losing your identity. You make the animal in their courtyard a reason not to sit at their table. Food prohibitions as identity enforcement work precisely because food is intimate. You can ignore someone's political organisation or their language or their clothing and remain who you are. You cannot eat with someone every day without being changed by the encounter. The prohibition ensures the encounter does not happen. The pig did not become unclean because God examined its biology and found it deficient. The pig became unclean because a pastoral people in competition with an urban people needed a bright, uncrossable line between themselves and the people whose land they were entering. The pig was the line. It has been enforced for three thousand years. That is a remarkably durable piece of food politics.

My daughter is stuck in Dubai right now She moved there last year to work as a "model" Said Germany was "suffocating" her with taxes Yesterday she called me crying "Papa the airport is closed, there are missiles, I'm scared" I chuckled "You wanted 0% taxes? This is what 0% taxes looks like" She asked if I could call the German consulate for her "You left Germany. Germany doesn't owe you anything anymore" I said and hung up Trust your government. Or face the consequences This is what happens when you abandon the EU

🇬🇧🇺🇸 Tom Cruise hangs off airplanes at 30,000 feet. He's jumped out of helicopters, scaled the Burj Khalifa, and broken bones doing his own stunts because he thinks safety doubles are for cowards. This man just fled London because the streets feel too dangerous. When the most reckless actor in Hollywood history thinks your city is too sketchy, your city has a serious problem...

Terrifying. A Swedish woman and her daughter travel to Pakistan as tourists and decide to explore a local public market. They are immediately surrounded by a pack of zombies who cannot control themselves. The girl is petrified and hides behind her mom, who also seems frozen. Luckily, they are escorted out by a few good samaritans.
