@JustinWStapley We can’t add up votes from all 50 states and total them together!? lol!

Advocates for abolishing the electoral college make a similar mistake to those who believe the 2020 election was stolen. You cannot steal the national election, because there is no national election. There are fifty different state elections, and a conspiracy to steal an election would involve not one but dozens of separate operations that would have to infiltrate state and local processes from top to bottom, and somehow compartmentalize all of it to avoid detection. It's impossible. Similarly, advocates of abolishing the electoral college want a system that awards victory to the winner of the national popular election, but we have no national popular election and we have no idea what that would even look like. We have fifty separate state elections whose results reflect unique state and local concerns, and in every state but Maine and Nebraska, the winner of the state's election is its winner in the electoral college.

If you forced everyone to be vegan there would be more malnourished people in the world. Not everyone is going to be able to eat soy chicken or whatever. It’s gross anyway.
NotCarlos@notcarlosz2

@TRunLeashed @DerekPederson3 Wow. Didn't realize vegans all die quickly after switching to that.

@JustinWStapley Wyoming would stick around for three reasons: 1. They are part of the richest nation on Earth. 2. It’s illegal for them to secede. 3. If they tried to secede the military would kick their ass.

Under the Electoral College, the President is elected by the states and it is the states who choose to run popular elections to select electors. This is actually an integral part of the longevity of the union, because the great compromise ensures that small states are not subsumed by a national policy driven be the population advantage of large states. Remove this framework and why would a state like Wyoming stick around and be dictated to by a government that only represents the coastal enclaves?

No of course not. You are comparing apples to oranges. There’s a difference between murdering and fighting for pleasure and killing for meat. Humans are smarter and superior to all other species.
Kavyansh Gupta@GuptaaKavyansh

@TRunLeashed @DerekPederson3 Other animals murder each other and physically fight to get a chance to mate, should humans start doing that too?

@StatisticUrban I frankly don’t care. Animals aren’t people and shouldn’t have the same rights people. People > Animals.

But we are not them. We are vastly more knowledgable, stronger, and more capable. That should expand our circle of moral concern.

@Zazeronofshadow @SJWheeljack I grew up on a farm. I work closely with farmers. I’ve voted for every Democratic Presidential candidate since I became eligible to vote. Nothing gives me more pause about voting Democratic than when I hear progressives start talking about hating meat.

@SJWheeljack The federal government needs to pass a bill that preempts these laws Fuck the farmers They’ll never vote for us, so destroying their industry won’t have a real impact

On March 19th, 2011, the military intervention against Libya began under Pres. Obama that included joint strikes with Britain of 110 Tomahawk missiles and numerous targeted bombings. The campaign continued for EIGHT MONTHS, and American forces actively participated in a total of 7,000 NATO bombing sorties against Qaddafi's forces. There was never any Congressional authorization for U.S. military activities in Libya.

Given the news today that Spirit Airlines is shuttering and thousands of people are losing their jobs, I think we should honestly assess whether the Garland DoJ stopping the JetBlue merger with Spirit Airlines was the right call. Perhaps it was but any analysis must consider as part of the equation the loss to so many families ro decide.

@ElectionCenter_ He would have lost I’m sick of people blaming black people for a race dems haven’t won in 30 years. If Chris Christie didn’t run for senate in 2010. Marco Rubio wouldn’t have been a senator.

If you follow the factory farming debate you’ll quickly learn that people will come up with the laziest and strangest justifications to ignore extreme animal suffering, whatever their political ideology

veganism is not inherently a morally superior position. the vegetables and fruits you consume are also harvested via immense cruelty & exploitation, not to even mention indigenous practices or food deserts. if you care about animals, the position to take is anti-capitalism.

I'm not vegan and I can't really pressure people to become vegan until I do myself, but there are really no good arguments that veganism isn't both morally and pragmatically correct.

If we stopped eating meat, we could reduce the land we use for agriculture by 75%. That's 31.3 million sq km, or 12.08 million sq mi. An area larger than all of Africa, or about four of the contiguous US.

The vegan position is enormously straw-manned. No one is positing that the animal agriculture industry is run by monsters who want to hurt animals. Their wellbeing however will not be protected by an industry in which they are property.
