New paper: eDNA metabarcoding at African savanna waterholes revealed 95 species. Wet season shows overall richness, dry season favors mammals. Primer choice matters. We’re excited about eDNA powering wildlife monitoring! 🦒🐢🪿🐍 doi.org/10.1111/eva.70… #eDNA #Wildlife #Africa

🚨 We’re thrilled to kick off the eDNA Metabarcoding course, funded by @eDNAcollab ! 🌍 Researchers worldwide are joining us this week to learn how to analyse their eDNA data with guidance from an exceptional team of instructors. @leeselab @buchner_dominik @TillMacher Peter Shum

Had a blast to co-lecture the first Conservation Genomics and Biomonitoring Workshop in Maun, Botswana this week, delving into topics from DNA sampling to wet lab work, eDNA, molecular ecology evolutionary biology and analysis of whole genome data! To be continued!

It's a wrap! Finished all #metabarcoding libraries of our #eDNA samples from South African waterholes, hopefully containing lots of #mammal DNA! Can't wait to send these little bastards out for sequencing. This needs to be celebrated with a great South African pinotage!🦒🦏🦓🧬🍷

@alpineedna @CatiaALPereira In general great, but after 18L we noticed more and more air (instead of water) getting sucked through the pump, due to some leakage in the assembly which we couldn't find. Not sure whether that was an issue with our pump or simply an effect of the filter becoming more clogged.

Received my sampling kit to contribute to the global lake sampling project #leDNAby @alpineedna! Several hundreds of lakes will be sampled in a standardized way and almost simultaneously across the entire globe in order to measure biodiversity. Excited to be a part of it!

Our genetic synthesis paper based on multiple Eurasian otter studies we conducted reveals a stark contrast between the current #management units (which are mostly defined by political borders) and the genetic structure of #otters in Austria (and as new data reveals also beyond)

Back in the field for more #eDNA sampling in South Africa! The savanna is teaching is how drastically different its face can be, not only between seasons but also between years. We are hoping for the rains to arrive soon before we run out of water to filter 😅🌧️🦒🦏🐃🐇🐀

Today was our last day of dog trials, in which we are assess how much #eDNA is shed into water through different types of water #interactions (yes, including poop). Our five stars (#Lagotto Rogmagnolos, trained truffle dogs) were awarded with lots of cuddles afterwards!
