Fossil fuel price shocks are redistribution shocks. Last time, we warned windfall profits would benefit the ultra-rich at the expense of everyone else. This time, there is no excuse. The numbers are in. We need windfall profit taxes & multilateral price caps now.

Different things can be true about someone. It’s undeniable that Churchill did very well as WWII leader & that we have issues with his record on Ireland. The Taoiseach noted both aspects of Churchill, showing that it pays to have studied @UCCHistory as @MichealMartinTD did.
Kookaburra cove@kookcove

@TacticALmover @DalrympleWill @RoryStewartUK @DanMulhall He clearly put a caveat on his statement about Churchill from Ireland's perspective. He was hardly going to argue with Trump in the WH about war crimes. Sometime you have to know what battles to pick. He handled it with very good diplomacy.

@hegsadh @shrubbly1 @TonightVMTV @RBoydBarrett I’ve given you the opportunity to actually learn something. I can’t help you much more. After you engage with the material you can of course then offer a critique on it , or point to anything you feel is incorrect. It’s also possible you may be afraid of the historical facts.

@hegsadh @shrubbly1 @TonightVMTV @RBoydBarrett Your basic comprehension is too poor for me to do much more, but yes the podcast I shared originally covers the 20th mid east history. Noting to agree or disagree on. The latter goes back to the Bronze Age! You should really try learn something…

@TacticALmover @shrubbly1 @TonightVMTV @RBoydBarrett At least you agree that's 20thC history.... except for the whole Arab/Muslim colonial conquest that started before the Norse conquests of Northern Europe. Don't need to listen to a podcast telling me the Philistines aren't Gazans.

Does the podcast start with Arab colonialism in the 8th/9th C? Or does it start with the Muslim Brotherhood 20 years before modern Israel was established by the UN? Or does it start in the late 1950's when the Soviets realized that socialist Israel wasn't going to be an ally in the Cold War, so they created the PLO and "Palestine" to destroy Israel and be their vassel state?

@TacticALmover @shrubbly1 @TonightVMTV @RBoydBarrett Dude...FFS. Are you serious? 1948-49.... Israel accepts partition. Arabs reject and attack to destroy Israel....and lost. They lost land. 1967....Arabs attack again....and lost again and lost land. If the Arabs hadn't attacked they wouldn't have lost that land.

Israel was living inside their borders until what happened? Israel has also handed back land for peace. The Sinai Peninsula was handed back to Egypt and they are at peace They handed back Gaza and made it judenfrei for the first time in 3000 yrs. That didn't give them peace, just rocket and terrorist attacks. Israel has made peace with multiple Arab states and is trying to make peace with all of them.

Not just Germany and the US. All the Western powers except Ireland and Spain. The Western-centric world order is crashing in an orgy of war bc of the entrapment of the West by the Outremer.

@shrubbly1 @TacticALmover @TonightVMTV @RBoydBarrett So he's an idiot? A well known truism: If the Arabs (and the Iranian dictatorship) put down their weapons there will be peace. If the Israelis put down their weapons there will unimaginable violence and death. Try to accept reality.

Offshore wind capacity factor is actually 40-50% according to the International Energy Agency (iea.org/reports/offsho…) which means that, if you speak about actual energy output, you need roughly 100 of these wind turbines to generate the same amount of energy as a standard nuclear plant with 90% capacity factor. Which in any case doesn't change the equation: it still takes a few weeks to install them, and it's still way cheaper. And no, Trump isn't right: even in the U.S. it's not a scam in the least. If it were, why would an incredible 91% of new electricity generation added in the U.S. be renewables (utilitydive.com/news/renewable…)? American utilities aren't "woke", they're building what's cheapest.

Timely data out this morning from @EU_Eurostat, as a potential energy crisis looms. Almost half of EU electricity came from renewables last year (controversially, nuclear is not classified as renewable). Noteworthy that wind's share declined compared to 2024, while solar's rose - with year-on-year growth of 24%. Solar is increasingly looking to be the energy source of the future. FWIW, as a techno-optimist, I've always believed that technological advances would eventually solve the emissions problem, and lead to abundant cheap energy to boot. If small modular (nuclear) reactors live up to potential, the Strait of Hormuz could be a forgotten backwater in a decade's time.
