1of2 Just returned from @RoyalCaribbean #royalcarribean Greek Islands cruise. Never been on such a poorly organised, poor service cruise. 31/2 hr wait for tenders, daughters phone stolen and made to feel like I was lying, every guest services staff tells you a different things…

Don’t get your phone stolen on a @RoyalCaribbean cruise. They’ll spend all their time searching CCTV tracking you and your family to make you feel like you’re being investigated and lying about the theft. Even when you give exact details of when and where it was stolen!

On the 4th October, whilst volunteering with the British Embassy in #Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small group of us attended a natural disaster in Donja Jablanica, sadly killing 19. Stu, a Crew Manager from @AvonFireRescue demonstrated extreme selflessness and gallantry while searching for survivors and has received a Chief Fire Officers Commendation for his actions from Chief Fire Officer Simon Shilton @spshilton (Permission provided by Stu for this post) @JulianReillyUK #UKinBiH @UKDefenceinBiH

*BOSNIAN FLOODS* 🇧🇦 🇬🇧 On October 4th 2024, a number of emergency service workers from the UK, including myself were volunteering in Bosnia & Herzegovina delivering technical rescue training. At around 0900 we became aware of a major incident within Jablanica which involved a landslide and floods involving an unknown number of people, including multiple fatalities and multiple people still unaccounted for. Being in BiH with the British Embassy and only 45 minutes away from the scene we offered our services, and following a number of discussions, the British Embassy authorised our deployment with agreement from the relevant Bosnian authorities. We sent 3 individuals initially who have rescue experience at around 1230 and arrived approximately 1 hour later due to negotiating landslides and challenging driving conditions. As a UK team, we spent 3 days on scene, and supported the BiH Incident Commander. We were directly responsible for the recovery of those who sadly lost their lives allowing closure for families, as well as searching multiple premises and vehicles and acted as advisors when required. As it stands, around 16 people are known to have sadly lost their lives, as well as more unaccounted for. How could we sit around and not help when we have skills which could save lives! I would like to take this time to thank the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina for his confidence and support in sending us on behalf of the British Government, as well the continued support from the British Embassy staff who provided logistical support so that we could remain useful for the period in which we were on site.

On Friday 12 January, firefighters attended multiple deliberately started fires in Eastville, Bristol. Sadly, during the response to the fire, one of our firefighters was injured, they were taken to hospital and are now recovering with their family by their side.
