She added that 'Chinese culture has always been part of the DNA of Taiwanese society…' Cheng also made a point to propose some constructive areas for cross-strait cooperation, noting that 'our experiences and strengths can be mutually complementary.' These are hard words for most American strategists to hear, since they have spent the better part of the last decade trying to find ways to stabilize China-Taiwan relations through military deterrence rather than through diplomatic engagement or reconciliation. The « joint-primary » process between the blue-white camp is going incredibly…almost suspiciously well. As we know the political equation in Taiwan these days is this: KMT + TPP > DPP. So if the blue-white camp come up with one candidate, that candidate is likely going to win. But if they split the vote between two candidates, the DPP would win. So they came up with a deceptively simple system: whoever is ahead in the polls against the DPP candidate gets the nom and everybody else drops out. Even if that means TPP chairman Huang Guo-Chang dropping out of the New Taipei City mayoral race. The KMT’s Hammer Lee (great name BTW) will now be the joint Blue-white candidate for New Taipei City come November.

DAILY CHENG-POSTING: Chairwoman Cheng issued a blistering rebuke of President Lai blaming the opposition and China for his failed trip to Eswatini. « This is a tremendous diplomatic setback. It should be cause for reflection by the national security team. How did they get it so wrong? And does the error not go back to their misbegotten attitude on cross-straits relations? Instead of reflection, the DPP blames the KMT. That’s bad enough. But the DPP should not make itself the enemy of the Taiwanese people and their development and prosperity. Peter Wang was a freshman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He was also an Army JROTC cadet who dreamed of attending West Point and serving his country. On February 14, 2018, when the shooting started, Peter was in study hall. As panic spread through the corridors, he moved towards the exit. Not to flee, but to hold the door open for his classmates to escape behind him. He was shot and killed in a third floor hallway. He was found still wearing his JROTC uniform. He was only 15 years old. For his actions he was posthumously awarded the ROTC Medal for Heroism by the US Army, and also posthumously admitted to the United States Military Academy at West Point for the class of 2025. The West Point class of 2025 voted to give Peter their Honorary Graduate Award, because as one cadet put it, he embodied duty, honor, and country before he ever had the chance to wear the uniform for real. He never made it to West Point. But he already lived everything West Point stands for.

The most absurd part of this Reuters piece is that a Taiwanese person saying “I am Chinese” is treated not as history, ancestry, culture, or civilizational memory, but as if it must automatically be CCP manipulation. Reuters is not exposing propaganda here. It is helping normalize a colonial narrative in which Taiwan’s Chinese are expected to forget their own history, deny their own identity, and speak only in ways acceptable to separatist politics. That is the real propaganda. Every people on earth are allowed a national memory, an ethnic memory, and a historical identity. Only on the Taiwan question do Reuters and the DPP act as if Chinese identity itself is inherently suspicious unless filtered through anti-China politics. They wrote tens of thousands of words just to suggest that Taiwan’s Chinese are not really Chinese, and that any expression of Chinese identity must be classified as “information warfare.” In the end, this is just political laundering for colonial erasure.

Cheng Li-wun, the new head of the KMT, hopped on "Taiwanese Joe Rogan" Holger Chen's livestream to talk cross-strait relations and her trip to the PRC. The biggest takeaway for me is seeing how much visible support she is getting on both Youtube and Threads (Taiwanese people prefer that to Twitter by a mile lol). The times are changing. The clearest sign is that DPP candidates who are up for reelection are not criticizing her because they are afraid of angering their constituents. Some quotes from the talk: "Have confidence in peace (between the straits). Have confidence in the goodwill of the PRC." “Drones should be carrying boba tea, not bombs (referring to her experience with Meituan delivery drones)” “The DPP candidates who are up for election/reelection are shying away from criticizing my trip to mainland China. They know which way the wind is blowing.” “The DPP has done its best trying to sever ties with China the past 10 years, give Taiwanese business trouble, and destroy domestic tourism. Domestic tourism is the ‘dragon head’ of the service industry - the entire service industry is in shambles thanks to the DPP. It’s only due to high tech and TSMC that’s keeping Taiwan afloat, but 80% of Taiwanese do not reap any benefit from this.” Stream is on youtube, but it's all in Chinese and I don't think anyone translated it to English. Youtube's auto-translate should do a decent job though.
