A 🇨🇳 man and a 🇨🇳 woman walked into a shop… This happened in the Alice Pizza shop in Central, Hong Kong… The usual stuff. They didn’t line up, and then arrogantly and bossily complained to the non-Chinese shop assistants (Filipinos / Southeast Asians) in Mandarin why no one was serving them… and they questioned the assistants why they’re not speaking Mandarin… when a customer — a local Hong Konger — stood up for the staff and confronted the Chinese bullies, the 🇨🇳 man went nationalistic and barked “are you Chinese?” bla bla bla… (The videos were posted on Threads on Mar 15.)

Both Chinese and English are the official languages in Hong Kong. Which part of this sentence is difficult for you to understand? You do sound like an idiot. If the 🇨🇳 man and 🇨🇳 woman can’t speak English, they should’ve sought help politely; I’m sure others would be more than happy to help. But they didn’t seek help. They bullied the Filipino and/or southeast Asian shop assistants there because they couldn’t speak Mandarin. That’s what racism really is. Cantonese is the dominant language spoken in Hong Kong. Not Mandarin. And there are many non-Chinese residents who don’t speak any Chinese (Mandarin / Cantonese) in the city and English is also an official language. There’s no law anywhere in the world that people must be able to speak Mandarin. If a visitor like the 🇨🇳 man can’t adapt, it’s his own problem. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. If you don’t get it, feel free to stay inside China. Chinese travelers are in general not well-liked around the world. And there’s a reason.
