As long as the construct of “addiction” remains in-tact, we’ll never have lasting harm reduction programs. We can’t argue for basic human rights using a discourse that positions us as fundamentally different from other people.

There are no recreational drugs. Even laughing gas has rational uses because it gives us a break from morbid introspection. There are recreational USES of drugs, but the term "recreational" is often used to express our disdain for users who go outside the healthcare system.

The lead of this program is on record saying they can’t find continuation of care for these pts, but they at least notify local ERs and harm redux groups so ppl can have testing supplies & naloxone. For ppl who are in addx tx, they can find prescribers but not for pain pts.

For my Canadian friends, this is the program they’ve created because so many MDs are being shut down or are quitting due to Rx opioid political scapegoating, that it’s causing frequent increases in overdoses and med emergencies b/c no one will take pts once they’re abandoned.
