@ZohranKMamdani It’s the guns. Conservatives never learn. No guns = no gun violence. Super simple solution.

As kids return to school, another mass shooting has stolen young lives. Children shouldn’t fear their classrooms. Teachers shouldn’t risk their lives. Parents shouldn’t wonder if their kids will come home. We are the only country with more guns than people—and this is the devastating result.

Israelis were jaded about a 2-state solution with good reason long before Oct 7. They elected dovish Ehud Barak over Netanyahu in a LANDSLIDE in 1999 on his promise of “rapid progress toward peace.” Barak put it all on the line at Camp David 2000 - a Palestinian state in the “West Bank,” Gaza, and with East Jerusalem as its capital. But Arafat walked away - without even making a counteroffer. And the evidence is now overwhelming that Arafat already planned the bloody Second Intifada as his real response to the offer of a final peace agreement with Israel.

@Alonso_GD You are using the term “temporal framework” because in any framework other than a “temporal” one, Jews were ENTIRELY outside the “framework” of 19th and early 20th C Europe, to the extent that virtually all of them were expelled or exterminated.

Frankly the idea that Herzl, Jabotinsky or Ben Gurion existed beyond the temporal framework of European modernity because of a 3000 year old Israelite kingdom is very strange to me and makes no sense

There are currently two sets of nationalist ideologies actively seeking to appropriate anti/decolonial discourses to justify colonial relations of oppression: Hindutva and Zionism I sadly anticipate more will follow…
Adam Louis-Klein@adam_louis52328

The academic model for understanding Israel is fundamentally Eurocentric. It filters all global histories through the lens of European expansion beginning in the 16th century, treating “modernity” as a uniquely European phenomenon to which all other histories must conform. As a result, Jewish return to the Land of Israel—a civilizational act of indigenous reattachment and continuity—is misread as a colonial intrusion, simply because it falls outside the temporal frame of European modernity. Jews are cast as “Europeans,” despite their rootedness in the Middle East, while Arab and Islamic projects that seek to reignite imperial entitlements are framed as anti-colonial resistance. This inversion only makes sense within a Eurocentric periodization that erases the longue durée of Middle Eastern history. Arab colonialism is rendered invisible because it precedes and exceeds European colonial timelines, while Jewish indigeneity is delegitimized because it is “too old” to count. In this frame, only European actions generate historical meaning—everything else is either a reaction or an anachronism. The result is a distorted moral geography in which only those who fit the mold of modern, post-1492 resistance movements are granted legitimacy—while Jews, whose return expresses a far older structure of peoplehood, law, and land, are denied even the language to describe themselves.

Israel’s use of archaeology as a cover for land theft is a cynical manipulation of history to justify ongoing occupation and dispossession. Turning Palestinian land into a “Biblical Disneyland” erases the people who live there and deepens the injustice. This is colonialism disguised as culture.

@CantEverDie If landlords weren’t permitted to make profits, they wouldn’t become landlords at all. What would housing be like if investors didn’t provide capital to build and maintain housing?

Feels like it should be a bigger story that Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal over a week ago, and Israel just fully ignored it.

Why? Why will you leave it to "historians"? Why wait till it's over? Why not "leave it" to human rights organizations like Human Rights Watch, Amnesty, Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam, B'Tselem, Physicians for Human Rights, who all say it's a genocide? No excuse for agnosticism.

@dylanotes The camera was IN the hospital … was being operated by Hamas personnel … and was monitoring and recording IDF troop movements. All of this ABSOLUTELY legitimizes a strike.

There is no conceivable interpretation of the law of war in which a camera set up nearby legitimizes strikes on a protected civilian site like a hospital. The fact that Israel is citing it as if it is a reasonable standard should, by itself, trigger a halt in weapons to Israel.

2023: HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST WE’D TARGET A HOSPITAL 2025: There was a camera in the hospital and it was Hamas, we had to shoot at it
Israel Defense Forces@IDF

An initial inquiry regarding the strike on the observation camera at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, which occurred yesterday (Monday), August 25th, 2025, was presented to the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, by the Commander of the Southern Command, MG Yaniv Asor, today (Tuesday). From an initial inquiry, it appears that Golani Brigade troops, operating in the area of Khan Yunis to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, identified a camera that was positioned by Hamas in the area of the Nasser Hospital that was being used to observe the activity of IDF troops, in order to direct terrorist activities against them. This conclusion was further supported, among other reasons, by the documented military use of hospitals by the terrorist organizations throughout the war, and by intelligence confirming Hamas’ use of the Nasser Hospital to carry out terrorist activities since the start of the war. In light of this, the troops operated to remove the threat by striking and dismantling the camera and the inquiry showed that the troops operated to remove the threat. The Chief of the General Staff received the initial conclusions that were presented and instructed that the inquiry be completed. At the outset, the Chief of the General Staff emphasized that the enemy conducts extensive and covert visual-intelligence gathering while cynically exploiting sensitive sites and civilian infrastructure, such as the Nasser Hospital, from which it carries out terrorist activities against IDF troops. The Chief of the General Staff added that six of the individuals killed were terrorists, one of whom took part in the infiltration into Israeli territory on October 7th. At the same time, the Chief of the General Staff regrets any harm caused to civilians. The Chief of the General Staff instructed to further examine several gaps: Firstly, a further examination of the authorization process prior to the strike, including the ammunition approved for the strike and the timing of the authorization. Secondly, an examination of the decision making process in the field. The Chief of the General Staff emphasized that the IDF directs its activities solely toward military targets.

Eylon Levy@EylonALevy

The IDF completed its initial inquiry into the Nasser Hospital strike. Troops fighting Hamas in Khan Yunis identified a Hamas camera being used to monitor soldiers and direct attacks on them. They struck the target and killed six terrorists, including one who took part in 10/7.
