@tomwarren Depends what type of bundle it is I guess. Including Gamepass into Netflix in some shape or form seems like a good play - Playing Gamepass games via Cloud etc They really need to step up the quality on cloud streaming though.

Wouldn't put it down to that. Everyone was looking for growth and it made sense for Sony to go into live service. Pretty sure they made their intention known about live services and mobile expansion which all made sense. Did ABK worry them somewhat, for sure.. but I'm trying to think of a studio they wouldn't have acquired if ABK never happened

This is literally the reality of what happened. Sony was spooked by the Bethesda and ABK deal and went on a spending spree. Now it’s blown up in their face once the dust has settled.

The model here was pretty good, I just don't know how Xbox didn't release Gamepass mobile version similar to what Netflix did. In relation to them potentially partnering now - I would say incorporating it into Netflix would be rather interesting, of course this would work via streaming..which then begins me to the next point. They really need to improve their cloud capabilities.

@DeekeTweak It would also be a little easier than Netflix trying to have their own catalog of games included with the subscription. Most people that I know that have Netflix don't even know they have access to mobile games too

Imagine a button directly in the Netflix app that launches Xbox Cloud Gaming on your TV. That'd be a good way to get people to try cloud games. Cloud might offer a unique opportunity for more story-driven interactive experiences rather than repeatable games (if latency permits)

@DeekeTweak That's what I was thinking, or maybe even a rebranding? Netflix Games/Gameflix etc. Would be Gamepass at its core but a changed user face to fit the Netflix theme

I think history will be kinda to him especially when details come out in relation to what went on during the Xbox Series Era (Margins/Gamepass/Console price increase - Microsoft) If Forza, Gears & Halo do well it won't have technically released under him, but it was more or less completed under him. In relation to their current strategy I do like it... But I do think it would be more effective with exclusives. The PC market (Prebuilt) has good potential of market properly and the more unique selling points you have the better.

Phil Spencer deserves a lot of credit for revamping #Xbox after MSFT took their eye off the ball during the Xbox One launch. He fought for Xbox to remain a consumer facing brand, especially with MSFT having failed in numerous other consumer product lines. He completed the acquisition of ABK despite numerous roadblocks (some of which were hilariously off base). However, given the updates over the past month, it's starting to make logical sense that he already had one foot out the door. Even from the outside you can tell that new leadership at Xbox is using a revamped consumer approach to the product. I'd also argue that what we saw at GDC was good for developers, though that was set in motion years ago, during Spencer's watch. You can tell there are two parallel, but complementary strategies at Xbox right now: Consumer AND Developer. How do we sell it? How do we make it easier to develop on the platform? Does this work over the next decade? I don't know, and neither do you. I like what I'm seeing, but my personal view doesn't mean market success. That's a much more complicated answer, especially when a company sees a mix of results.

@GameOverThirty Good numbers especially given it's their first venture into this kind of game. New IP and I expect the sequel to be much better. Very good start. Now what they expect is anyone's guess but I'm leaning they'll be happy.

Crimson Desert sold through 3M units. I don't know what the company set as expectations. 3M units is likely a good start given environmental factors.

@Aussious If it came out day one on PC it would have sold more and PlayStation would not have been materially hurt. I would go further and say if it arrived day one on PC/PlayStation and Sony was the publisher they would have made more money overall.

@GameOverThirty They've done well. I'm still surprised we haven't seen a mobile version. Same goes for - Forza Horizon - Flight Simulator - Grounded

Rare stuck with their vision on Sea of Thieves while expanding it to deal with modern content expectations. I did NOT enjoy the launch version of this game. It was extremely light on content. That certainly isn't the case today.

@Aussious The problem is people love this Us Vs Them battle .. because if there wasn't they would actually have to go play video games and that's infinitely more boring.

Should've started with Altair in the Middle east but all is not lost. Ezio has been the best protagonist in the entire series after all so it should be fine if they follow the canon somewhat.

Is your argument here - if Gamepass didn't exist we wouldn't be getting these updates or DLCs? Could be as simple as this is a Bethesda game and they know their games have a long tail...plus they planned to release it on PlayStation & Switch so releasing updates to coincide with the new platforms will yield more revenue.

The Game Pass model makes Xbox unique among its peers. No one else launches first party games into a service like this. As such, the games, devs, and MSFT themselves can be rewarded when the games are updated, often significantly, which now also coincide with cross-plat releases

I've seen the feedback on the Xbox/Starfield post and had a bit of time to gather thoughts to clarify. First of all, this isn't a problem unique to Xbox. I'm well aware games drop on other systems all the time for cheaper prices with QoL improvements intact, GOTY style.

Doesn't matter. As long the gameplay loop is good, the majority of us will be on board. We like to act like we care, but when it's time to decide whether or not we buy a product, we don't.

@Boxenberger Depends on how good the new DLC is, that along with the new updates will determine if I come back. I'm not crazy about the galaxy, I'm more story focused so that's going to be what I'm looking for the most

Because the people who said those things (the picture you have up), are not there anymore. That's how you start to build trust. A side point though is.. this is the entertainment industry, nothing should ever be seen as golden. Technology and market conditions can effect things.
