Anyone who wants to only blame The Stronach Group for issues at Gulfstream and the majority of issues we have in California is extremely foolish. The mismanagement and poor leadership in the horse racing industry and our dismal decline in racing over the last 20 years is the real culprit with racing in California. We are ALL responsible for these issues. Over the past 18 months, I have shipped horses to run races in California and currently have horses with Michael McCarthy. What other big owners have decided to send horses out there to help the trainers, jockeys and tracks fill entries? We cannot consistently be this irresponsible. If horse racing loses the state of California, the value of the sport drops by at least 33% Whatever horses, horse farms, stallions, mares, track, sales agency, etc. your value drops 33%. As an industry, we should all be rallying to make California racing successful. If we need to revenue share or subsidize racing in California to make sure it survives, it’s a no f$@ing brainer. Everyone wants change, but refuses to change the 10% of the sport for which they have ownership, accountability and responsibility. Let’s empower a national governing body to make the right decisions for the health and growth of the horse racing industry. Extreme selfishness will be responsible for the death of this sport. Everyone needs to wake up.
